On the way home tonight at around 9:20 we found a horrible discovery in the middle of the road on a t junction.

He was laying on the road, his beautiful green eyes staring back at us, my partner and i both said those dreaded words. "Oh no" I rushed out the car and picked up this gourgous cat, he was barly breathing, i cuddled him as he took his last breath, i tried rubbing his chest to bring him round but he had gone. He just couldn't hold on. He was bleeding from his nose and ear's, there was nothing we could do. I looked up and down the road wondering where to start. A house caught my eye and i just knew he lived there, i knocked on the door. They didnt answer, i knocked again. They were snuggled on the sofa watching TV and didnt want to answer the door, i knocked again. Then a massive block opend the door, i asked if he was his cat. He said i think so yes, i heard a lady's voice say please dont say its lucus. She let out a howling cry.

I feel so terrible, but i couldnt just leave him at the side of the road.

Some (@#@#) had just left him to die alone in the road. That poor baby.

R.I.P little one.

Awwwwwwww..... that is so sad... I can't believe someone just left him there!! X( :( it makes me so mad that someone would let this happen... R.I.P, kitty :(

Thank you for taking him home to his family who now have the closure of knowing what happened to him.

Poor wee chap.

I'm so glad you found him........i couldn't bare to think of a little one lying in the road with nobody to care........ :(:(:(
Some people are so thoughtless :)>>>
I'll go and post in the RB thread.... 8...

It must be some comfort to his owners to know that he wasn't alone when he died. I'm so sorry you faced such a sad and difficult thing, your actions were without doubt respectful and honourable. xx

This is still breaking my heart and I'm really struggling to sleep at night now.
:0 I wish i knew who did it to him. I hate how the people just left him there and how people just walked past me without even stopping as i was holding him in my arms crying! This is just one of the reasons i really dislike people.

Laura i think his owners blamed me. I do. I wish i had driven down that road just a little earlier and not talked to the kids dad about the rescue for that breif 10 minutes. Perhaps our car head lights would have scared off the cat and he wouldnt have got hit. I'm sure he hadnt been there long.

What a shame. Maybe the people who hit him didnt realise it. I wouldnt like to think otherwise. The owners will just be in shock and I'm sure they are grateful that you gave Lucas the dignity he deserved in his final moments. Its not a nice thing to experience but know that you comforted Lucas in his journey to the bridge.

I know how you feel popcorn paradise, we witnessed a cat get run over a couple of years ago and it has haunted me. To the point where I'd start to get a panic-attack feeling if I was driving down a parked up road as I was convinced something would run out in front of the car.

You did such a great thing, and I believe that animals in those situations no longer feel pain, he would have appreciated your comfort.

Maybe you could put a card through the owners door just saying you were thinking about them, and try and make sure it is obvious that you didn't hit the cat.

It makes me feel so sad thinking of pets that haven't made it home and what the owners must go through, at least you spared them the not knowing, or worse, finding the cat themselves.

oh no thats terrible. poor you. Well done for what you did. means the owners wouldnt have had to worry where the cat was when it didnt turn up.
Hats off to you x

R.I.P Kitty

the same thing happened to our cats when i was 14 the first cat name tabby was found dead by the side of the road someone had picked her up and put her on the pavement,
the second cat gizmo we found on the road his eye had come out via the impaction i will never forget my dad bring him in for us to bury:0 funny thing is that morning just before we found him dead he had a wild head on and was running in my bedroom scratching my bed then running off it was about 6am then at 9am he was gone:0
the 3rd cat was name smokey he loved to play in water with his front paws:)) he was such a sweet cat, i remember he was missing that day we asked neighbours if they had seen him they said no then we asked this shop owner who worked behind our house and he said he found a cat in our alley way dead so he rang the council who moved him:( we went to the council where he was dumped under medical supplies in a skip,my dad brought him home and we buried him:0
we didn't live on a busy road but in the next block was a main road this is where they got killed.all the cats were buried with a teddy bear with our tears wiped on it:0
my mum and dad saw another cat run out into the road not the road where mine died this cat got hit by the car and my mum and dad ran over to him and the cat took its last breaths in my mums arms:aLJFBQ00151070111C::aLJFBQ00151070111C::aLJFBQ00151070111C:

Aww thats awful. 8...

Thank goodness you were there to offer some comfort in his last moments. I'm sure the owners don't really blame you, when people are in shock the act impulsively.
You did the best thing for him.

You did the best you could and he wasn't alone when he went. Poor boy.

When I was younger my cat got run over and left, he survived and took himself home with a broken pelvis and his leg broken in 3 places, it was awful, I remember crying and trying to get him to lift his back legs up but he kept flopping, I really don't know how he got himself home - shows you the determination. Luckily my Dad is as big a softy as me when it comes to animals so he paid the £350 bill to fix him up instead of the relatively small fee to put him to sleep. Tammy lived out his days with a slight limp, a back leg that bothered him when it got cold and metal pins holding him together!

Thank you everybody. My OH's nan had a siamese that got hit by a 18 wheeler outside our house a few years back. We didnt see the remains. OH's Uncle took her home with him. I'm not sure i would have been able to deal with that. I'm sure it was a mess in all honesty. Not much can stand upto being hit by a truck. I couldnt give full details on what happend to my cat when i was a kid as it is so disgusting. Lets just say the kids should have been hanged for it.

If only cats where happy to stay inside aye? I was so run down and excausted last night i actually slept right through the hedgehog banging on the bars of his cage with his food bowl rolleyes

awww poor wee cat. This has also happened to me a number of years ago. I was walking over to my friends house and since i went over that way a lot i noticed this big ginger cat that used to always sit on top of the fence. The cat was very recognizable as it had lost an eye sometime ago. I knew the house the cat lived in. One night i was walking to my friends and noticed the ginger cat was laying at the side of the road, i went over and picked him up, he was still warm so whatever had happened to him didnt happen that long ago. I took him to the house and the lady was really upset but really thankful i brought him to her. The strange thing though is that a few months later when i was walking past that way i could have sworn that i saw that big ginger tom with the missing eye sitting on his fence...

Thank you, it wasnt hard at the time, i got out the car picked him up, rubbed his chest checked his breathing, the poor thing was pouring blood from his ears and nose, he was gone in secounds. I just go onto auto pilot, it was handing him over that was hard, telling the owners and walking away. I was in shock about 15 minutes after i got back in the car. I didnt get much sleep in the week after that, i just felt it was my fault. I know there was nothing more i could do for him, but that didnt help at the time.
