Goldie
Adult Guinea Pig
Quite a few years ago when my daughters were younger, they decided that would like a hamster each.
We went a large pet store in Bristol to have a look on a Saturday morning.
Well, you would not believe what we saw in the glass tanks that the hamsters were housed in! :0 Dead hamsters lying on their backs with their legs up in the air and their flesh had been eaten away by other hamsters!
Well I was so so angry. I was absolutely disgusted that not only had the hamsters been housed like this, with so many in each tank, and the awful things that had happened to them but also that my little girls are seen such an awful sight!
I demanded to see the manager, who reluctantly arrived. Listened to my rant, my daughters totally embarassed by their mother at that point. She said she agreed with everything that I had said, they were short staffed and she would sort it. I said "you had better, because I will be reporting you to the RSPCA and I will be back". I did both of those things and I have to say that things did improve. Not sure what the RSPCA did about it though.
My daughters still remember that Saturday morning ... they say "do you remember what Mum said to that lady in the pet store?" As I say to them, always be diplomatic, firm and to the point but polite. Don't swear ... well, ok ... sometimes!
