petshop and the poor animals

good luck with it, hoping something can be done for those poor animals and that it is not swept under the carpet, which sometimes happens.
hoping you get the little piggy with the sore eye, maybe a friend could go in and see if he is there and perhaps buy him for you, it couldn't hurt.
wishing you and your daughter luck with this with you in spirit:rose:rose:rose

Hmm.. You know in Singapore, the pet shops are almost the same or worse than this =(

Some ppl just don't care and all they want is to make $$$.
They are selling Euro $15 at that side? in SG they are selling it at a steep price of $188SGD! Which means 188/3 = Euro $62+

Hope the piggie u mentioned would be good.. poor piggie. Wonder where they took the piggie. *hmm*
I believe the ppl working in pet shops loves animal? =(

When Ellie went back to the pet store a few hours later, taking with her a friend who she hoped would be able to buy the piggy, they found a sign on the cage saying 'long haired guinea pig is sold'. Now I guess this could be because I have said I want him, and they have told me they will phone me when he is, in their words 'ready'. However, considering it appears he isn't getting any treatment, especially when they say no-one had even looked at his eye when I phoned early afternoon yesterday, then I can't see he is ever likely to be better, or as they put it 'ready'. :(

have a look see

yes i know this, but i just thought perhaps if someone just went into the petshop to see if the little is there or not now not then and perhaps buy it if it is. they may think you have given up and have put it back with the others again, just a thought.

dreadful and I agree who on earth is supplying this place

Those photos are horrific! grrrr They may be clean.....but how in the WORLD could anyone think it is even REMOTELY acceptable to crowd so many rabbits into those cages.....and have PIGGIES in with them?!?!? mallethead I wonder how many animals they lose to injury, suffocation, shock....and how many more minor injuries they amass there? This place should be shut down.....it is just TOTALLY unacceptable!!!grrrr grrrr

I so hope you get that poor piggy out of there Debbie. Those pics are horrendous, how those poor buns & piggies must feel ............... :(

I've got him!

Just to let you all know, I've got the piggy with the poorly eye. Ellie and I went across this lunchtime and there were different staff on. I have to say his eye did look a lot better than it had looked last week. I asked if it was ok to take him now and was told yes. I asked what drops he had been prescribed and was told that actually he hadn't been given any drops, and that they had just bathed his eye each day. Not quite the same story I was told last week!

Anyway the important thing is he is now safely here with me and my letter of complaint to the council will be in the post on Monday morning.

One cage today had 10 piggies and 3 rabbits! :(

good on you......glad he's out of there, hope the council don't ignore this. so many people don't care if its about animals do they? such a shame.

I really hope they don't ignore it, but i've been told by my vets that many people have reported it and nothing has been done. Well if it means getting the local newspaper involved too then thats what we will be doing.

I am SO pleased that you have managed to get the poorly piggie out of there! But it is extremely heartbreaking and worrying to think about the others that they now have cramped in there suffering. I REALLY hope that the council does something about this. 8...

Does your new piggie have a name yet? Would LOVE to see some pics! :) :)

poorly piggy

am so glad you got him out of there and he is safetly home with you.
perhaps the health department would be of help depending on what is on either side of the petshop and i am sure it must be on the nose for people when they enter.
it is also giving the wrong message to people when they come into the shop, and the fact that no one else sees any problem with what this shop is doing amazes me.:{:{:{ you said in original post people were walking in and tapping on glass and showing kiddies the animals.
you have touched on the piggies and bunnies, what condition if they sell them are the kitten and puppies in?
i would go to the newspaper, the council might not do anything or your letter will be tied up in red tape and the longer you take the more suffering those poor bunnies and piggies are going through.
i totally agree with who ever siad who ever issues the licences they should do spot inspections on these places, blow the damn money what about the welfare of the animals?
surely healthy animals would sell quicker and world of mouth would be good for business?
please keep us posted on how you and your daughter get on. sending hugs and fighting vibes your way pow-powpow-powpow-pow
am with you in spirit. good luck.

Thankfully it is very unusual to find puppies or kittens in UK pet shops.

Glad you got him Debbie. A local shop in Liverpool sells Kittens, I haven't seen any in since Feb. (I keep my eyes peeled on the situation there). :)

At least he's safe now and can get the kind of treatment he deserves, poor little soul,

This is awful! How could pet shops just neglect these animals? The RSPCA should have made a move by now!
Terriblee.

that is so distressing to look at i cant begin to imagin how the animals feel

The little chap is settling in now. He was so terrified for the first couple of days. I'll post pics of him soon, but don't want to distress him by taking photos while he's still so nervous.

He stil needs a name, but it needs to be right! He deserves a special name!

The others have obviously been telling him that if you shout really loud then Debbie runs outside to pick grass for you, because he's quickly learnt that trick!

poor little chap

so glad he is settling in and is learning how to train you:)):)) perhaps a name like lucky, treasure, poppet, trinket, bounty, kaleo(means pure), laramie (means tears of love)lucus (means light) stash (means sun's rays)
tibalt(people's prince). what ever name he gets he will be really lucky to have found you. look forward to seeong pictures of him when he is less stressful. sending hugs to you both:)p:)p and xx>>>xx>>>
