So I recently got a bunny. I also have my piggies of course. No matter how much I clean and clean there’s this odor I can’t get out of my room... until my mother bought me an essential oil defuser. It got rid of all of the odor! But, I started to worry maybe it could be bad for the piggies.. so I haven’t used it and the head wrenching smell is back.. are essential oils damaging to piggies? What can I do to rid this smell!? Please please help.

Hi!

Essential oils shouldn't be used around guinea pigs. they are only covering up a problem but not resolving it. If there is a health issue at the bottom of it, then the health issue needs to be addressed or it will only get worse.

It would be better to give your piggies and buns a bath, deep clean the cages with a vet grade disinfectant and see a vet if the smell persists. If you have boars, please check their bits.

So do you have both the bunny and piggies in your room?

How big are their cages and what bedding are you using for them. Some beddings are better at covering smells than others, so maybe a change would help.

Please don't use essential oils around piggies (or buns) - they can be quite dangerous and harsh on their sensitive respiratory systems.

I’m not sure whether or not this would work well as I’ve I don’t have one to test for you, but, if it smells after you’ve cleaned out their cage, you could maybe try getting an air purifier. There are some on amazon for around £35 (U.K) which specifically say that they get rid of bad odors.
