Hi,

I've recently moved house and now have the space to store a large bale of hay for the piggies rather than having to buy it bit by bit from pet shops etc. I remember reading somewhere that horsefeed suppliers are a good source for cheap hay? Does anyone use this... or have any other ideas for me regarding buying/storing hay bales ?

Cheers

Somepeople get it in bales from dustfreehay.co.uk i think.

I used to get it from a local horse shop for £3 a bale, but it wasn't very good quality. had loads and loads of dust in it! You could always see what the hay quality is like near you tho, might not be dusty like mine :)

tbh i didnt think i got enough for my money from www.dustfreehay.co.uk

id check around your local farm shops.. which part of the country are you in? someone might know a good place near to you..

I have never tried buying bales of hay but if you get 'horse' hay and refuse anything but horse hay it should be the best.

I get a bale or two from the farmer and its £2.50 a bale roughly 4ft x 2ft just the right size to store in my shed

150 bales :o :o :o

You must have a huge farm and lots of animals ;D I just dont no how people can afford to do that at times :-\

I would just be careful to make sure the place you buy the hay from doesn't use pesticides, chemicals, etc. Then you need to make sure the hay isn't carrying bugs. Also, hay can mold if not used up quick enough. So, you don't want a bunch of hay just sitting around waiting to be used.

Thanks for all your replies...

I am in West Yorkshire.. So if anyone could possibly reccomend any decent hay sources around me like Spudnik suggested then it would be greatly appreciated...
