Iv recently discovered that a few people feed their pigs on a few horse products, some seem to mix in feed with regular guineapig feed, some use snack items for them.

I was recommended Equiblox but as the shop I buy my bales of shavings from is a horse shop, they don't stock that brand, iv recently tried them on vitamunch blocks containing compact timothy hay, nettles, ddandelios and red clover.

Does anyone else use any other items aimed for horses? would love to introduce a few new things, especially as these blocks are great boredom breakers!

Hi I've never fed such things and have no real idea whether they are suitable or not but hopefully someone else will. I know nothing about horse foods!

My best guess would be that if the only ingredients are things which you'd find in guinea pig safe foods then, from that point of view they might be ok but I'd also want to be sure there was nothing that would cause no problem to a horse but might be a choking hazard for a guinea pig in them.

It wouldn't surprise me to hear they are ok - not having any other animals and having no scientific or other relevant experience, it was a surprise to me when I first heard about use of certain human medicines on piggies!

The vitamunch blocks the OP is using are marketed as being suitable for guinea pigs so I'd assume it's okay. Seems a but like a big version (and cheaper! ) of hay cookies.

Yes sorry, obviously if it says it's ok for guinea pigs on it then I'd feel happy with that. My mind was thinking only about horse things which don't specifically say they are ok for guinea pigs.

I would check the ingredients and compare, but from memory I think they are very similar products. The main thing I would be worried about is the vitamin content, if you are using to replace pellets make sure of the vit c content, and likewise that calcium content isn't too high especially as they could contain a lot of alfalfa which is very popular in horse products
