I'm currently getting spare bedroom ready for guinea pigs we hope to adopt. The bedroom gets very warm in summer we struggled to keep my sons bedroom next door cool in summer as gets sun all day and evening so worrying will get too warm and door will have to be closed due to my cat. Considering swapping bedrooms 🫣 which is annoying as I dont want to give up my pink bedroom 😂 but my room at back is cooler. I would have to do this soon before they come and change door to bedroom and means my clothes would be in GP room so its a,faff. But if a hot sunny room is going to be a worry I would rather do it now

Hello well done for planning ahead !
I think most of us struggle to keep a room cool rather than keep it warm !
Seems a shame to lose your pink bedroom !

A lot of people use blackout blinds that keep heat out and use wet sheets over the windows outside
You can get mini air cooling units like this one altho I’m not sure how good they are
JML Chillmax Air Pure Chill Mist | Dunelm

You can used freezer blocks inside covers and frozen water bottles in socks and these can be put inside the cage
Ice Pod For Cooling Small Animals

I’m sure other forum members will be along to offer advice too
I’d make sure you start a Vet fund as guinea pigs may need treatment over their lifetime
Good luck

I bought the Chillmax mini unit. On the high setting it gets hot and I think could be a fire risk if allowed to run for a few hours. It produces a very small amount of cool air. I think the bigger units from Argos are better and probably safer. I will buy one next year as my studio flat gets alarmingly hot. The temperature is OK for me, but my pigs are visibly uncomfortable and unhappy in their fur coats. It's well worth changing to the cooler room. Even with the Argos cooling unit on, I think the sunny room will probably still be too hot. A real air conditioning unit (£600) could cool the room properly but is expensive and needs to be vented out the window.

I know gutted as ive just painted spare room yellow lol but it might be less stressful than worrying about them all summer. It has a blind and was still roasting sometimes and were in Wales not known for its heat.

Ive read about wet sheets but can't figure out how you attach them.

Ill get a mesh door as well so cat can't get in but main door can be open so that will help.

Thanks yeah all rooms upstairs get so warm but downstairs is a no go cause of my cat so I think changing rooms now is less hassle. What ones do argos sell that are reasonable ? I'm menopausal so an air con unit is the dream but not for 600 😂

Argos' stock is low at the moment. There is only one 15 litre model. I'm hoping they will have more units in in Spring. I think reading the reviews on Amazon might be the way to go. Yes, hot flushes are a pain. I think the cooler might be a good option, not perfect, but helpful 🤞
