I need to give my piggies a hot water bottle, as she is unwell and am unable to take her to the vets untill friday. If I wrap it in a few old pillow cases. Is there no way they can chew it and burst it. My pigs are naughty and would chew me if they could.

I don't think you should leave her unsupervised as if she does chew it, the hot water could burn her and the rubber could make her ill. Friday is a long time off. You can get pet heat pads, but if they are too expensive for you, maybe others could suggest an alternative. x

Do not give your piggy a hot water bottle as it could be very dangerous. If it was to burst, your piggy would be seriously hurt. As nutmeg suggested, you can buy snugglesafe heat pads that you pop in the microwave from pets at home or online http://www.amazinghealth.co.uk/snugglesafe-heatpad.htm If you not want to buy one of these, could you not give lots of towels and snuggle cups etc? Hope your piggy feels better soon xx

Ok sorry someone suggested it earlier so I thought it would be ok. I think she has a UIP or something. Can't remember the exact order.

Hope I can take her wednesday but I want to do everything I can for her untill then.

I just hope she's dosnt get worse. She's eating fine and running around just sneezing and whistles when she breaths.

what bedding are you using - sawdust and wood shavings can cause problems like this? its recomended not to you them news paper and hay would be better for her breathing until you can get to the vets.

They had shavings but have taken that out. I put and old sheet folded 4 time on the base then a bit of wadding in the sleep area and then cut up an old 100% polyester fleece jumber and put that on I have also then added hay. Will that be better for them?

They also have red sore patches on their feet dora the sick one has it the worst.

that will be a lot better and better for the feet too!
you could try rubbing some antiseptic cream into the feet like savlon after bathing in warm water with a little salt added to sooth them but wipe off any excess cream before putting her back.

Thanks, I don't have any savlon here at the moment.

Because she is long haired I have been to afraid to bath her as she won't let me dry her (it can take me upto 2 hours) and I don't want her to be wet or cold.

Thanks for your help.

Also is there anyway this UIP (or what ever its called) can be passed to my other piggie?

I am not sure if it can be passed on to your other piggie Upper Respiratory Infection (URI) but I do hope that she feels better soon. It sounds like you are doing everything you can for her :) The reason I said about the hot water bottle is because I have heard horror stories x

she could be having a reaction to the wood shaving from early that you have now removed one of my piggies was like that, when i changed the bedding things got a lot better for him and it has cleared up altogether.
a dust free bedding is much better as piggies are allergic to it and causes the problems you have been having see how you get on over the next few days till you can get to the vets.
fingers crossed it improves for her!

Thanks I hope things improve as vet bills are so exspensive, and I can't really afford it at the momment.

Its so worrying I was in tears when I saw her runny nose earlier.
