Summer is upon us. With temperatures climbing quickly in the coming days, please remind yourself what you can do to keep your guinea pigs safe and well at all times.

Guinea pigs struggle with quick temperature chances and heat spikes, so they will be at a higher risk over the weekend, during and immediately after the heat spike when a struggling body makes them more susceptible to opportunistic health problems.

Last summer has shown up just how much many owners have underestimated that the hot weather can affect piggies in hutches, on the lawn and indoors, sadly at the cost of far too many piggy lives when lessons were learned too late. :(

Please take the time to read these two links here. They are full of really helpful information and tips to make sure that you care for your piggies in the right way and make sure that they are as safe and cool as can be:
Hot Weather Management and Heat Strokes
The temptation to overfeed watery veg and fruit in hot weather!

Bumping this too - 37 degrees here today which is crazy for Switzerland.
Ruby bit me, which is actually nothing new, but today i blamed the hot weather making her grumpy :))

I am glad to be over here in the UK!

NOT my favourite kind of weather... and it is only just the start of summer holidays this weekend in Switzerland!

Please take the time to read our hot weather advice - even for indoors piggies!

There are a lot of very simple little things that can help you to keep temperatures down that seem obvious when you read them, but that you would not necessarily think of!

Bumping this thread for our UK members as tomorrow is forecast as a hot day in the UK

On the plus side, the temperature in the north west UK seems ideal for skinny pigs! Tallulah is liking the 23 degree temperatures at 6pm when the late afternoon sun comes round and shines in on just one corner of her hay tray, 20-24 degrees she's sleeping out in the open more and eating a bit less food!
