My piggies main home is indoors!

I've brought my piggies a huge run so they have even more space!

With my piggies living indoors is it safe too take them outdoors?

I live in the UK and it has been quite hot, around 26 degrees C at the hottest parts of the day! Obviously I won't take my piggies out during the hottest part of the day, but towards the evening when it is cooler :) I will also place them in the shade, too keep even cooler?

How long should I allow my piggies too be out? As I don't want too leave them out too long during hotter weather! :)

Thankyou! :)

My boys are in a hutch outside, although it is in a well sheltered spot. But I do put them out in their run everyday when it's not wet. If it's a particularly hot day I drape a large, very damp towel over the side and top of the run. It acts as air-conditioning for them. They do seem quite comfortable with this.

As for how long they should be out: I have been leaving mine out for up to 4 hours, they are munching on grass for most of the time, and are very happy to do so. In fact I would say elated - they love grass. After this when I see them just sitting around I'm thinking they may be bored, so I have a little lap-time with them and then put them back into their hutch.

If you are putting them out on grass for the first time I believe you should only do so for a little while till they get used to eating the grass. Don't want to upset their delicate stomachs.

I'm quite new to all this myself, but this is just my experiences, which I hope may be of help. But I'm sure someone will be along soon who can give you more detail on this subject. :)

Ours live indoors in their cages overnight but get put into the garden and are free-range for the whole day, well, until early evening anyway when they get brought back in for supper and bed!
One of them, Dave, usually comes trotting back into the house in the early afternoon and after a quick sniff around the living room hops back into his cage for the rest of the day where he sits quite happily munching on hay and napping occasionally in his slipper. Therefore I wouldn't worry too much then about them looking bored when brought in, there may be a good chance they are pretty tired and happy to just relax.

Definitely let them have plenty of shade when outside though, they do seem to get hot, particularly the darker coloured ones who must just soak up the suns rays!
