Hi everyone i am soon to be rehoming 2 lovely guinea pigs who are both blind and deaf They are overwise healthy and happy and i just want to give them the best life i can. Does anyone have any ideas for outside housing. they have a few special requirements to work around.

-an open plan house with no separate sleeping compartment
-house needs to be on one level
-needs to be insulated and heated with tube heaters
-either top opening or something to stop them falling out when door is opened
-door that can be opened during day to let in sun.

if anyone can offer any suggestions or has any experience with blind/deaf animals i would really appreciate hearing from you. thanks x

one of mine is mostly blind and almost deaf lol! he has the same house as everyone else, he tends to stick to the sides a bit more and uses his shoulders and head to move thing that are in his way. He doesnt use upper levels though, and just try to keep it simple but see how they go with different things before you write them off. Just when you clean out make sure you put it all back in same place so they know where they are x

ETA: do you have a small shed or play house? that would be ideal for them xx

hi thanks for the reply i was thinking about a playhouse but thought there would be alot of wasted space because of them only using one level, although i havn't really come up with any other ideas yet. Do yours have access to an attached run, can the blind one find his way in and out. i would like to have a hutch or play house with an attached run as that is what i have for my other piggies but i would be really worried about them getting stuck out there!

Mine is just in a C&C but he's been in the house etc and can find his way around but he isnt completely blind, he is in one eye and almost completely in the other. I think you'd be best seeing how they go once you have them, just by watching them you will be able to tell how well they can navigate their way around and then you can decide wether a run would work? xx

Have you thought about getting a carpenter or joiner to make you a hutch of your specification?
You can thenget it double skimmed so you can put insulation between the wood and under the floor and space for a heat lamp etc if needed?
ANd then you can also get it as large as you wish...

Sometimes it works out cheaper than buying already made... We did that with an old hutch we had and it worked out at £50 for the hutch when it would have cost £80!
