Hi I'm liam and I'm about to buy some guineas this week O0 :) ;) and i was wondering weather you can house guineas with the norweigeian dwarf rabbit? my friend has a dwarf rabbit (not norweigeian) and his piggie gets very well on with it they groom easch other?

Thanks for advice O0

No definately not! Rabbits can injure piggies with one playful kick of their powerful hind legs and may even kill them, they have different dietry needs and they cannot communicate with eachother.

Do you mean Netherland Dwarf there is not such breed as Norweigian Dwarfs :D

But anyway: definetely NOT a good idea as a kick by a playful rabbit can seriously damage a piggie rib cage or even kill.

Hi Liam. You'll find that most on here dont agree with the two species living together and i have to agree.

Nope a bunny can kill a guinea it really isn't advised. Some pet shops will tell you it can be done, I was told that when I got Sunshine but upon doing my research I found it can't happen.

Guineas must live with their own kind, the same goes for buns.

:)

Nope. Dwarf rabbits are known for having a bad temperant and strength isnt meausured in size. They are still a great deal stronger than piggies, and can kill them with a good strong kick :o

Hi Liam

Well, in my ignorance (and before we had the internet so I hadn't discovered this site) our dwarf lop Mitzi (now passed on) lived with Molly our oldest guinea pig, I have to say they were the best of friends and adored each other. Molly was never hurt but perhaps she was lucky or just quick at hiding.

After Mitzi passed on we got Molly some other guinea pig friends to live with.

We now have a baby rabbit Minty, he lives separately and has separate run time, as I now have been educated by the wonderful people on this helpful site O0

I agree about dwarfs having bad attitudes. Many years ago i had a Netherland Dwarf & got him a piggy friend. They were fine the first 2 nights, the 3rd night my poor piggy had literally been "macheted" from shoulders to rump by the bun, he was a right mess :(
Thankfully he made a full recovery but i vowed then never again

Putting aside any injuries that could occur, rabbits and guineas communicate in totally different ways, and just dont understand eachother....its not fair to keep them together.

They are both social animals and should be homes with their own kind, but most definately not together! :)

Yes there is such a breed as the norweigian dwarf i breed them tht y I'm askin this O0

Any way thanks alot every1 u really helped ;)

Liam

Sorry, but you're not right, there is no such breed as them. What country do you live in?

Dont worry i find a new home for them (i live in england) as soon as they have been weaned.

PS. i'm not wrong belive me look them up on google, plus the fact i breed them should be enough for you to belive me! :D

Exactly, have u looked on that website? All those bunnies in rescues that need homes...and your just adding to more!

Trust me, I know my rabbit breeds, the "dwarf" breed in England include NETHERLAND DWARFS and POLISH. Norweigian Dwarfs don't exisit, you must have heard it wrong.

I googled and found a few photos of 'norwegian' dwarf rabbits, are they maybe the same bunnies as netherlands but someone (not you croc-hunter!) got mixed up and started referring to them as norwegians and the name has stuck? Sorry for butting in, just a thought..

They look like cute bunnies though! :smitten:

I doubt my grandma would abandon them (thts were they go as she owns a farm!) i visit them every weekend so i can assure you they are al right not being rehomed.

PS. i have been breeding norweigians all my life LOOK ON GOOGLE!

yer they are but they do come from norway trust me they are a little samller than the nederlands dwarf

lol they are cute :smitten: you should see them as they are just born! :smitten: :smitten:

They do look cute (the ones I managed to google) - any chance of some photos? :smitten:

No guineas should be kept with any breed of Rabbit

That out of the way, I used to show Netherland dwarf Rabbits and i have never heard of a norweagin dwarf rabbit,I have just done a google for them and it seems that the norwegian dwarf is a bit suspect and not a registered breed with the british rabbit council who i am still a member of

I bought them when i was living in south africa and they were quarinteened (sp.) so all leagal but i now breed them so there is loads of them in my family as i cant sell them leagaly!

Thank you Sokel O0

I know people import all the time, but they are still classed as Netherland Dwarfs although imported O0

south africa has a varied range of breeds (more than england) as they get far more things imported tho them

Sorry i cant work that bit out,If you brought them into the country leagaly there is no reason you cant sell the offspring .
I will chat to a few of my mates tonight who are rabbit judges with the BRC and anything that they dont know about rabbits isnt worth knowing lol and get their opinions on norwegian dwarfs O0

as i said above they are very similar but they are smaller (4 to 5 inches in hight)

any way i wont house them togheter i just wanted to know that.

PS. i know I'm right

don't bother m8 lol as i have said they arent sold in britain but they are in south africa

PS. thanks for the info on the selling thing but after looking on that rabbitrehome site i dont think ill bother selling them
