Hi

I currently have 2 un-neutered boars, whose bond failed and are living happily as bar buddies. They each have a 4x2, in an L shape with a divider.

I’ve recently been thinking about sows. I could make my L shape cage a two tier, and have one of the tiers open without a divider, for 3 sows to live in. But for the structure of it, the floor with a divider would need to be on the bottom. I’ve read that to keep boars and sows stacked, the boars would need to be on top, but is this the case for bar buddies also? As for the cage to be sturdy I would need my divided boars in the bottom, and have the top open for the sows.

Is it possible for me to have the boys in the bottom and girls on top?

As the boys don’t live together they aren’t going to fight with each other when smelling sow pheromones. Therefore the boys being at the bottom is less of an issue in that sense but do be aware smelling the sows will still have an effect on them individually, it will probably spark dominance between the bars
