How about this hutch?

Very nice. The only problem with this one is the cute heart shaped locks. They do work loose, and can easily just come open. Or they can be easily opened by kids, cats, dogs, foxes....etc.
I have a double decker quite similar, but mine is solid top and bottom. It's a lovely hutch, great quality, but I have fitted four barrel locks on to make sure the doors stay shut.

that's a lovely hutch, but as nutmeg said - I'd pop some extra bolts on just in case :)

Lila that one you posted is the second hutch I ever bought. I was pleased with it but certain things on it didn't wear that well - like the flap that closes off the ramp at night which broke off long ago, the hinge that allows the roof to stay open when you lift it and last week the roof fell of the hinges because it has rotted a little and I do use hutch huggers in the winter. In saying that the main framework has lasted well. I did add extra bolts on as those hearts are extremely flimsy. There is a picture of that hutch in the thread Lesa's Clan as I moved it inside my girls shed this week.

The other thing I found with these hutches is that they are narrow and don't allow a lot of room - one you add a pigloo into the bed area it takes up the whole space and the space cut out for the ramp takes away a lot of space upstairs. I bought the wider version last year (its a Trixie one and can get it on Zooplus, who also do free delivery) and was much happier with it.

That hutch is a good price and you can get an extra run to add on to it but would advise shopping around. Ebay also have some good bargains on hutches. That's where hubby bought my big chicken coop hutch a couple of weeks ago and got it on auction for just under £80 plus delivery.

my first thought on reading the hutch it looked a bit narrow with respect to the 4ft by 2ft rule and also by not having a solid floor on the lower layer means that in the bad weather they will only be able to use the upper layer, if you are going for a double hutch i would try and find something wider and with a solid bottom floor for all year round usage. Note they state in the advert that they have changed to bolts from the silly heart shaped nonsense :)

Hi - good find but I would agree it is a bit narrow.

Also I would look for one like Nutmegs where the under level is off the ground. If it is put on grass it can quite quickly get muddy as they eat the grass so quick and is a bit bulky to move about. I think a raised level on the bottom makes it easier for them to use all year round, as when it's raining the under run can get very wet.

Thanks for all of your replies! I'm so glad you let me know about the open bit at the bottom. We don't even have grass so there isn't any point!
I am ideally looking for one with two levels but i keep finding ones that are intended to keep the piggies separate!
I have found this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/UNIVERSAL-DOUBLE-Rabbit-guinea-pig-hutch-L99_W0QQitemZ330369426300QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Pet_Supplies_Small_Animals?hash=item4ceb8d637c#ht_3808wt_1167 but i'm a little weary of it only being 99p with one bid and 1 day to go! Also, does it look sturdy enough? Could anybody kindly give me any suggestions/ links to good spacious double hutches? We have a budget of about £100.
Thanks :)

The only problem I see with that one is again the narrow space upstairs - they have been wise enough to close the ramp off in that picture of inside it so you can't see what little space there is when ramp is opened. Still a couple of hours left to go on this one and still narrow but much longer so lots of space for a piggy train to run and under budget at current bid.

Ooh, thats great! Nice and roomy, i love it! Thank you :) i'll try and get it! Are all hutches quite narrow then? Or just the style i've been looking at? Thanks so much for all of your advise! Really want to do everything right for my new piggies when they come! xx

Aww, I've been stalking that one! Don't need one til next summer now though :-).

Check out zooplus.co.uk there really cheap.

That one looks much better - do the piggies you have use ramps ok? - not all piggies will use them, and I know several people whos piggies never get off one level.

well i only did a quick scan but 20 inches is less than 2ft deep, can't really see the bolts on it so you might have to change them, you also need to be aware that some piggies will not use ramps

Thank you to everyone for all of your advice, I really appreciate it! No doubt i'll be back later with yet more questions for you all :)
I'm so excited to get my piggies! I can't wait! x

Wow, that one does look lovely! Would it better to get a single or double/triple level one? Thanks for everybody's help! xx

I've had single and double storey hutches and I preferred the double storey. All my rabbits and guinea pigs have ramps in their hutches and whilst some do take a while to get used to them they have all managed very well with them. I think you can buy a tunnel to attach to the ramp for piggys who are weary of them.

Sorry, I missed you asked about hutch width. I've found the majority of hutches to be reasonably narrow but recently places like zooplus and bits for pets etc have had some wider ones - there is the trixie one that I have and then there are the modular ones that are more square shaped but they nearly always have an under run which I know you said you weren't worried about having.

My favourite and best recommendation would be the chicken style coops but again that is partly because of the large run space. I got mine for under £120 but that was including £40 delivery to Northern Ireland - the delivery was a lot less for mainland UK. However, I think that ebay seller only has them on buy now at something like £120 plus. If you could stretch the extra price I think its a good investment.

There are so many choices and we probably all have her own preferences. Interested to see what you opt for.
