So as the weather is really picking up to be lovely ! What are you doing to keep your piggie pigs cool
I've left the window open slightly but I'm not sure what else I can do as there's no curtains to close in my room !

If he was indoors I would get the windows wide open and give them nice cold water and maybe if it was really hot get an ice pod or frozen water bottle :)

You can buy those cool pad things in pet shops. I think you put them in the freezer or fridge and then place in the cage for them to lie on.

Also, I heard before that someone used a glass chopping board used in kitchens for their piggies to lay on as the glass keeps cool...you could pop it in the fridge for a bit too. x

my flat is always cool so no problems here inside. If they are in the run I have lots of shady areas that even throughout the day stays in some shade no matter the position of the sun, but I do also provide extra shade. When in the hutch they get a parasol over the hutch - spoilt, much ;)

Windows open and blinds half open to keep the sun off them so lovely and cool for them here - gave them extra cucumber this morning and keeping bottles topped up.
They're all chilled out but the herd of girls went on a rampage last night for hours, chasing, humping each other so am hoping it is just the 'spring' air :{
Finally all calmed down at 11pm and they're not interested in each other today rolleyes
The ice pods are great for outdoors and need to get more now we've extended the piggy clan:

Window open, fan on (not pointing directly at them!) and they have one of those cool marble tiles in there, not that they lay on it though!

Going to make a 5 x 5 run for them in a couple of weeks so that they can go outside during nice days like this :))

:)) :)) Piggie chaos!

Blinds tilted in the bedroom and the window open to keep the girls cool, the rest of the gang are in the pen with a double quilt cover stapled over one end to provide shade from the sun. ;)

Tell me about it rolleyes I bought one for my rabbit too, as she is a lionhead X she has a lot of fur. She would rather lay on the concrete which is warmer even when in the shade!

Window on the vent lock thing and blind down ... other than that not much I can do I'm 20 miles away from them ...

:)) :)) Piggie chaos!

It was 'sweet little Amelia...butter wouldn't melt...look at me... I'm sooo pretty and can get away with murder' who was the main culprit, the little minx :(|)
Have put them extra toys/hideys and cardboard boxes etc. in today to keep them amused and no hanky panky so far but can't rule out another orgy this evening :...
Have noticed her rampant behaviour lately and am considering popping her to the vet to see if it could be ovarian cysts but this would only be as a very last resort :...
May need to pick your brain seeing as you have been through this recently, am monitoring things and recording her 'seasonal' days which appear to be more frequent :(
The other girls just boot her out of the way but a couple of the bigger girls are getting a wee bit snappy with her, stand up to her (she is top pig) and nip. I am terrified they may fight and fall out when I'm not here 8...
Sorry, appear to have hijacked the thread with my hormonal girlies :red

This isn't particually for coping with the heat but I worry about dehydration so I made piggy 'kebabs' of high water content veggies. Cucumber and celery have gone down best!

Might be worth trying as the veggies can be quite cool from the fridge!

Cherry tomatoes and melon are great too but only small amounts, mine love it.
I actually opened a bag of mixed salad leaves this morning and found bits of iceberg (OH had spotted them in Aldi and thought it would be a change rolleyes) and I let them have it :red

They have grapes and melon on their kebabs too though they aren't as popular. I didn't know about cherry tomatos so will ask mum to get some when she next goes shopping!

Mummy kindly found me a kind of curtain for my room to help keep it cool and marmites been just right all day, i may try an ice bottle if it stays warmer.
Bentley and Chester have just been out on the grass and are now sat in doors with the windows open sleeping away the day rolleyes

I have put an Ice pod down.......but they don't seem to know what it is there for? In fact they are even walking around it like it is in their way or something. Do you think they will get the hang of it soon?

I hope they do as my house gets really hot when it is nice outside. It is hot in here for me, so it has got to be hot for them.

i can imagine my piggies being like that with one, bentley thinks he's a horse and jumps obstacles quite regularly :')

Maybe try putting it under a hidey house thats how i showed my piggies there pillows and beds. (:

I keep the curtains closed and have an ice pod for them, jemima likes licking it and OH keeps saying her tongue will stick to it :))

My girls have ice pods and frozen water bottles wrapped in socks. Whilst out in the run, I spray a fine mist of cool water above them periodically during the day. I don't spray directly at them. I can't say the girls like having it done but it certainly helps to cool them down. It also dampens the grass around them which them seem to like.

The boys are in the shade in their run and the girls cage has been wheeled into the new back room(it's finished!). They are in front of the wide open French doors but with a curtain drawn for shade. There's a lovely breeze blowing in and every time someone walks past Lottie squeaks so loudly! Lottie is the loudest piggy I've ever had!

I'm looking into getting another outdoor run so the girlies can go out on the lawn too :)

Mine are outside with the shed down wide open and a bug curtain on, so its not like bright in there is quite shaded!
Seen them before when I came in and they were fast asleep, bless them! :)
Lottie's inside as she doesn't like the heat outside but gunna bath her later so she will smell lovely!
Alfie's an indoor piggie aswell but Ive put him out in the hutch and he loves it, talks to us when we go out.

Cookie has had a nice bath, I'm thinking of giving Bonnie and Lottie their 1st bath tomorrow if it's hot.

Shame I don't know how to post pics, got some great ones of Bonnie with double chicken legs. x)
