So I was in the vets today booking an appointment for 2 of our piggies to come back and be checked over as I want to be sure they are totally well before returning them to the rest of the group and a guy from the local Pets at Home store came in. He had 3 pet carriers which I'd say were each about 40 cm long and about 30 cm wide.

I only saw inside one of these and there were about 5 or 6 piggies at least. The vet came out to call him in, took one look at the 3 carriers and asked (with a slightly disbelieving tone) "have you got all the guinea pigs in those?" To which the guy replied yes.

Nothing more was said and they just took them all in to the consultation room but I just wondered how man piggies you should really have in one I those?

I would only have put 2 piggies in one.

I use a standard size cat carrier and I have plans to buy a couple more just in case we need to do a mass move of them for whatever reason. Mine was £10 from the range and it's grey and a funky green colour, I love it :) I've had four in it in one go but not for any extended period of time, just to move from outdoor run to cage upstairs.

Basically, as big as you can realistically carry around! I use a cat carrier per pair of piggies, and they are only in it for as long as they need to be.
Well I would say there was only the one man from pets at home and he did have to make 2 trips in from his vehicle as he had 4 carriers in total. So there may be a point that he couldn't carry any more!

That does seem too small for 5-6 pigs. I used to have a carrier from pah which was probably really for hamsters but ok for a 1 pig vet trip (ours don't like too much space as they feel exposed). But we chucked it because it wasn't good for both. Now I just use cardboard boxes from work which I prefer bec the plastic was stuffy in the summer
