Hello everyone

My family and I are moving house and trying to find a house with our needs that can fit Guinea pigs properly may be a challenge (though we are still looking but Canada housing market is 😭). My parents refuse to let me have them in my room so I’m wondering if it’s possible to house them outside.

So my question is, how cold and hot can outdoors be for Guinea Pigs? In the coldest part of winter here, it can be very snowy or icy, and temperatures range from -25 to -18 degrees. Windchill makes it feel worse. Also the ground gets slushy and wet but idk if that affects anything.

In summer we can see up to around 30 degrees, but I think with global warming, things long term over the years could get more unstable. And we probably have more severe wildfires to look forward to which means more periods of bad air quality.

Is it even possible to make a weatherproof sort of outdoor hutch or other setup for them in this weather or should I avoid it? If it’s alright, are there any guides or other resources on how to get started?

Guinea pigs are most comfortable between 18 and 22 degrees.
Anything less 15 degrees is too cold and over 25 degrees risks heat stroke.
So I’m sorry to say being outside in the temperatures you get, particularly in winter, would put them at great risk.
Your winters are just too cold for them to be outside at all.

You would need a properly built, properly insulated and fully heated outbuilding for them to be anywhere other than in your house.

Gosh, I have no idea how to keep guinea pigs warm at those temperatures in winter without them being inside a proper building. I'd be extremely reluctant to try.

How many pigs do you have?
