How do guinea pigs cope in boarding kennels?

Looking at the new thread re piggy sitters, I am in the North of Scotland and most forum members are based far away from me.

I am thinking of a holiday in Sept and obviously I have my boys to think of. There is a well-reputed bunny and guinea pig boarding facility near me and it looks very well run. However, I was wondering how the piggies themselves cope with new surroundings.

Have any of you received your piggies back depressed? Could I provide a bag of their fave veggies so that they get their ususal treats?

I worry that they would be frightened and get stressed etc. My boys do not share the same hutch, but have a split huge C & C run. Being placed in a strange, separate hutch may stress them out. And I would be unable to take their 6ft run with me to the boarding facility.

What a worried mum!

They should be ok. It would be a good i dea to take a bag of treats. I would let the kennenls no that you a little nervous and tell them what your guinea pigs? rabbits favourite things are.

I hope this helps.

The wheeks of delight as you are reunited is so lovely :smitten:

I was wondering about this too for when I go on holiday. I am afraid they will forget me :(

I use to use a boarding home buthte last 2 time my girls have come back from mites. either fromthe hay or through stress. this time i'm using a pet sitter who will come to house. So much better as the piggies will still be in their own environment and my girls are just 2 old to travel 25 miles to the nearest boarder.

I think I am lucky as Merls is so paid back he's practically horizontal. It was sweet to watch him rediscovering things though and wheeking and snuffling.
To be honest hes had 3 different homes in his short life so he takes things as they come

Talking about him has made me want to go home and snuggle him so I'm off

I have just left my piggies at a rescue centre who is going to care for them as I go on holiday tomorrow. They are in a hutch with all the hay they could eat surrounded by other pigs in other hutches will update you lot when I come back. I have no worries about leaving them as I know they are in safe hands.

My advice is go and talk to the kennels now and tell them your worries and your fears and I'm sure that they will put your mind at rest.

I have a members piggies here at the moment and they are munching quite happy on veggies and eating fine

They only arrived just before lunch today and are already coming out to see me when i take stuff in to them lol.

wonder if the owner will miss them if i dont let her have them back ;D
