Hello,

I have recently got a New Guinea pig from adoption. He is a singular guinea pig as we were told he did not mix with the ones they tried to bond him with. However with my old guinea pigs who has sadly now passed were very tame right from the get go so didn’t have to do much myself. U was just wondering if anyone out there could help me with my New Guinea pig as he is extremely Skittish .

Time.... it all takes time... he will need to settle in to his new environment... just take things slowly and talk and offer bits of food... good luck and read the guides on here too x

Thank you I have had him for about 2-3 months now as I have been trying to take things slow . I was wondering though if you think it would be a good idea to try and bond him with another boy ?x

I am no expert I am afraid... but he will most definable benefit from having a companion. No fun being on your own ..

Hi there, how old is your boy? I think all piggies benefit from company & just because people have failed to bond him before you doesn't mean you will. You could try piggie dating (which i have never done but lots of advice on here about it), or if you live too far away from anyone who does it, just go for it. If he's older, a younger boy might work or if he's young, you may want to consider neutering (I am going down this path this week with my 7 month old boy) & bringing in a female companion for him. You'll have much more time to dedicate to the bonding process than those before you so just read as much as you can on here & whatever you decide, I'm sure you'll choose the best option. Good luck x

Thank you he’s around 5 months old I have been looking up piggy dating but I do think the closest one is about 3 hours from me which is quite far away so I don’t think that’s an option. I would neater Him but I’m quite worried about the anaesthetic . Also just wondering how much was your neuter procedure x

He's similar to mine then. Gregory is 7 months and a lively little fella! I don't have anywhere close that does piggie dating either so I've been looking into the best options for him (on here mostly) which seem to be to get him a lady friend or three 😊. Apparently that will be piggie heaven so sounds good to me! Neutering will be about £70 including a pre op check & medication (I assume post op check also). I've a call with the surgeon tomorrow so I'll know more then. Re the anaethetic, I had a piggie who needed an x-ray last year & was put under anaethetic- he was absolutely fine. A bit groggy for a few hours but back munching later that day.
