Hi, my guinea pig Flo hates being brushed and having her hair cut. It’s rlly hard to cut her hair still because she won’t stop moving and I’m worried I’m going to hurt her. How do I get her to stay still?

You could try giving her something she likes, such as coriander, to keep her still while you brush/cut her fur. It doesn’t always work though. One of mine kicks and squirms about all over but I just try and persevere through it. She is better with clippers.

hi, thx for the reply!
I will try giving her some dandelion leaves when I cut her hair, fingers crossed it works.

Piggy Furdresser Love it!

Try putting her in something like a tunnel with some coriander or some sort of bribe at the head end. That way she can't move. Alternatively ask somebody to hold her gently but firmly.
thank you for the advice, would u cut the fur around her face? It gets quite long

Yes but make sure someone is holding her gently but firmly and be very careful if you have to go hear her eyes.

Hi, I’ve just cut my 5 month old piggies hair. She was squirming and squeaking as I expected she would as she is still quite skittish and it was the first time having her hair cut. She seemed to settle after a few minutes but when we were finished we noticed her nose had started bleeding? Is this due to stress or is it just a coincidence that it happened at the same time we were cutting her hair? Obviously me and my mum feel awful now and are worried it may be something serious? Thanks

I will tag a health expert on this issue for you.
Hope it’s nothing serious but the best advice is always to see a vet.

I have absolutely no idea. Is she bleeding from the nostrils or is there a wound on her nose? I would make an emergency appointment. Send a photo and ring them tomorrow morning.

Hi!

Is she bleeding from both nostrils or just one or is on the nose? Have you checked for a little cut?

If the bleeding isn't stopping soon, please contact a vet.
How to contact a vet out of hours

Hi, it was only from one nostril and it stopped straight away, it was only a small blob of blood. She seems fine now and is eating her dandelions so I will just keep an eye on her

The bleeding stopped straight away and its completely gone now, she seems happy and is eating her food. Do you still think i should take her to the vets?

No; it just seems to have been a small nip. You need to only see a vet if there is more bleeding or some distinct swelling and hotness.

Were you cutting anywhere near there? Is it possible she just got a little cut from squirming?

One of my pigs got repeated nosebleeds, but it wasn't a drop and then stopped... when she had nosebleeds, they BLED. We did see the vet but never got a really clear diagnosis, but they thought potentially polyps or even a malignancy in her sinus cavity (though nothing showed up on imaging.) She was lived a good six or seven months from the time of the first nosebleed so I doubt it was a malignancy, and she died of unrelated causes at around 6.5 years (so an elderly guinea pig.) I would see the vet if it recurs, but hopefully this was just a minor thing that won't recur!
