I have an eight week old baby boy who will eat his dry food and chew sticks in his cage with out problems but will not touch the fresh food I put down for him. I have found that he likes bananas, melon and apple so far-he seems to be a right fruit bat! But, he will only eat it either when he's out his cage or eat it from my hand. He is drinking plenty and I have added a couple of drops of multivitamin in his water bottle so that he's getting adequate nutrients. I have noticed as well that his droppings are a little soft as well (I am still trying to work out how three ended up halfway up my living room wall!) :-\

He, is otherwise a happy healthy little chap whose very active.

Thanks for your advice

First of all, they chew sticks are not good for guineas...you should never feel seeds either, they can cause teeth problems and are fattening.

Secondly, he is just a baby, so will be very nervous, and is prob not used to eating veg, dont give him too many at first, or he may get an upset tummy.

In the foods section, there is a 'guinea pig shopping list' with good and bad foods that you can try O0

Hiya,

When I first got my guiena pig Sunshine he was housed indoors until I got his hutch sorted and he wouldn't eat veggies or fruit. Just dried food, hay and water was his diet. One day my daughter came in with an apple and he went mad! So I tried it and loved it and then he never looked back, he loves his veg now! Never had the problem with my others but I think they just followed what he was doing and the girls were getting veg before I got them.

Just offer small amount, greens are a favourite and he will probably like cucumber. Try not to offer so much fruit as they do contain sugars and some especially the citrus kind and apples can give mouth soars.

Good luck with him, I'm sure he will come around.
