How do I litter train my guinea pigs? I have 2 new boars and they are about 4 months old, any tips greatly appreciated!
also...can older piggies be litter trained?
I don't think you can really litter train them. I've never had any luck! Sometimes they do the toilet in the one spot but that's only because they have their igloos in and are too lazy to get out and walk around
I don't think you can litter train G.pigs like you can rabbits, though don't quote me on that - some one more experienced would be able to advise better then me.
I have four piggies in two separate C&C cages. Two of them are very good and use their litter tray, the other two just 'go' whereever they want to.
The two that use their litter tray have done it on their own accord as I would not know where to begin to train them if its possible. I guess it has a alot to do with their individual personalities.
I do however have their pellets and hay rack in the litter trays as this does help with the clean up as piggies tend to 'go' as they eat - though no one has told my two messy ones this as they seam to eat then run around the cage going to the toilet and spreading it around rolleyes lol
hi my piggies only g in their litter tray and upstairs which is good as i just clean this out every day, whereever their hay is, they go, and the fleece is for snuggles!
I didnt really train them, they just did it on their own, maybe they heard me moaning! lol
It's kinda hard to train Cookie. I put a small plastic red pudding typed container, in one corner of her cage and it was surprising that she started using it. But then i think she gets bored having a toilet and often find her pooing in another corner.
Then i got her a proper litter tray from Jollyes. Which she uses sometimes, but likes pooing everywhere else too, and she often pushes it out from the corner and turns it upside down*sigh* they are hard LOL
