hello! alex recently had a stone removal surgery in the ureter. he is eating, but i’m not sure what do give him in order for him to gain back his original weight (he is currently 765grams, but he was originally 900+grams) please leave some suggestions on what foods that can help him gain weight easily. oh yea i also wanted to say that because i want to let him gain back his weight, i don’t overfeed him his pellets or his hay or vegetables

If he is recovering from surgery, probably syringe feeding with Oxbow Critical Care or Supreme Recovery Food would be a good idea, if you can get them. You can ask your vet for them, or if they can't help, they are available online.

he eats his pellets quite well(i give him harrington pellets) and drinks water, i only gave him critical care for the first three days after his surgery as his appetite was not so good, after that he was fine

Hi there,

Please give him unlimited hay - piggies should always have as much of this as they want this makes up 80% of their diet.

Are you weighing him daily? Is his weight starting to go back up since the surgery or staying the same?

I would still give him some critical care as well as his usual foods whilst he is recovering. Or you can try making some up a slightly thicker consistency and see if he will eat it for himself off a saucer. I am still syringe feeding my piggie that is recovering from illness just once a day about 10ml now though to give him a boost and help him put weight back on.

The critical care is hay based and full of nutients so a good thing for him to eat if you want him to put weight on. Or if he is eating pellets well you could give him extra of those for a couple of weeks.

Just avoid giving extra veg as that will stop him eating the other stuff that he needs to put weight on. Stick to giving him normal amounts of veg. :)

Hope he is back to his normal self soon!
