My local Garden centre has started keeping rabbits and guineas together, I asked last week and was told their vet said it was ok. I pointed out that even the RSPCA do not recommend housing them together and was told they had too many in and again the vet said it was ok. :tickedoff: :tickedoff:

Today a friend has been in and theere are now more guineas in with rabbits. After commenting a member of staff said another do gooder.
She told them not to be surprised if they got reported. How do I go about it, and will it help?

hi I'm not sure how you go about it you can always try ringing the RSPCA
but they defiantly shouldn't have rabbits and guineas together as the rabbit can get very aggitated and so can the guineas?

contact RSPCA get them to go round i think its possibly the only organisation that can help, other than Trading Standards mention animal welfare act etc
if all else fails get stroppy! ;)
Good luck!
Ron

I'd contact the council, RSCPA, get on your high horse. Do-gooder indeed it goes to show these people have no consideration for animals! :tickedoff:

I will ring the RSPCA and ring the store and mention the animal welfare act. I'll let you know how I get on.
Thanks

sunshineandtwinkle is right at least we actually care for are animals?

i was sold to guinea pigs of different sexes and they were kept with about five rabbits and the rabbits kept trying to bite the piggies?
it seems nasty to me to put the guinea pigs through that stress.

Emily sometimes wants to go and look at petshop pigs, I don't go into the whole it's not right with her yet as she is only 6 and she just likes them. I saw 2 buns in with 3 pigs 2 of which were huddled in a corner. All of a sudden the buns started racing around the cage and stepping on the pigs. I felt sick and have since reported them but I've heard nothing back.

I am shaking, I rang the store, the man insists there are no more in than last week.
I said I cannot comment on that as it wasn't me that went in today.
I told him I had looked up on the animal welfare act and the RSPCA website, he jumped in on me and said I wasn't to worry he will move them now.
OMG
I have said that I will call in at several points during the week and check, without warning.
I have assured him I will report him immediately if he does not.

Recently, I too felt the need to report a pet shop for the way the rabbits and guinea pigs were being housed. I contacted the RSPCA, you can do this anonimously if you want, they don't require your personal details. Explain your concerns and they will log the complaint and visit the establishment. If more than one complaint is received than this is helpful, so get your friend to call too.

The local council is responsible for issuing the licence for the livestock so I would certainly contact them with your concerns aswell.

The general staff in these places aren't always as educated in the care of the animals as they should be and just a friendly visit from the RSPCA with a few poiinters on proper animal husbandry is all that is needed.

Thanks for your advice everyone. I only hope he sticks to what he has said.
I will give them a chance to sort it out. Random checks should be enough to see whether or not he is doing as he said.
I have the numbers ready here to report officially if necessary.
Thanks again
Anne. :)

The council has to respond to any complaint about an establishment that has a license to sell animals! So I'd phone them. Ask to speak to the department that deal with animal licenses.

I'd also phone the RSPCA, but if all the rabbits and pigs are in good health, I don't know if they will actually do anything.

Go Girl ;D

If eva there was a good reason to get stroppy thats it and it worked as well

Gud on you O0
