Morning all,

Ok background info, I'm a mum of 4, two older ones and 2 young ones whom are 2 years old and 7 months old. My 7 month old George has health issues due to being born 5 weeks early. Nothing serious but it does make him cry ALOT and makes life fairly difficult. It got to the point where i was considering re-homing my pigs as i couldn't have all the time they deserve.

My hubby was having none of it and has now ripped out our downstairs small bathroom to enable me to have my pigs indoors, however what he has built so far isn't anywhere near big enough for my pigs, i know this is temporary until my boy has settled down but even still we don't know when that will be :(

The cages are 1 1/2ft by 4ft although because they are sideways they look tiny, i'm also going to have to invest in lighting and heating :/

How can i put it politely that they aren't big enough? He's spent a lot of time and money doing this so far and only let me have a peek at what he'd done last night.

I feel terrible and ungrateful :(

Could you say something like "Wow that looks brilliant but... I think the cages might be a bit too small though" and then show the size guides on the net?

Or show him pictures of various C&C set ups and suggest something like that. With loft space you could have a large cage area in a small room.

I wish i could but he's already built it all up and its cost a fortune! With all the screw holes and such its not even refundable :/

Is there not any way that he could just extend them slightly using his DIY skills. almost like adding an extension.
Or you could use connecting tubes so that the piggies get to use 2 cages instead of just one? or even get him to build a double layer cage with a ramp fitted?

I agree with above 2 posters. I think it is wonderful that your OH has done so much . I would work with what you've got and try to make some DIY extensions - or give them plenty of run time

Ok had a chat with him. He got a ikle upset and said "dont you like it".

Truth is i love the set up, and i think the pigs will find it cosy - ive explained the space issue to himand he said he can double them up and make bigger cages - he was just thinking a head for when i want more pigs lol!

So thats sorted for now, hes leaving me loads of floor space too so the pigs can have free roam.

I still think hes a ikle upset but i'll make it clear how much i love it when he gets home!

Whatever you do, make sure that you give him a BIG hug and a little special treat, and tell him that he is the best hub in the world! ;)

I think you should how him this thread.

Give him a big hug from all of us .

Oh bless him, he wasn't to know but in future if he suggests building something in future quickly mention recommended sizes so it's in his head when he's planning :)

And of course... while he's enjoying the beer... make sure you take some photo's so we can all marvel at his skills too
