Adult Guinea Pig
My boyfriends mum's friend, has a little boy, he's 10 years old and is in love with two of our piggies he's been going on about wanting them since we've had ours (about 4 months) and so his mum had a look online and found a woman giving away 2 guinea pigs for free to a good home, she went to collect them with the cage and things, but she was given a bag of ROTTEN vegetables, yes rotten vegetables a huge bag of them for feed.
They got the cage home and it was just covered in bits of vegetables that had gone bad, and the sawdust just looked wet over the entire length of the cage.
When it came to cleaning out, the little boy suddenly lost interest and decided to watch tv so we we're left to it, the cage had about 2 cms thick of green muck that was stuck to the bottom of the cage and we had to use wallpaper scrapers to get it off, the smell was the worst thing i have ever smelt in my life, but it now all has fresh bedding and the minuet the pigs where let back in they began to popcorn.
We thing the pigs may have been just left in there and food dropped in a just left, can't even begin to imagine the last time they we're cleaned out.
The woman who gave them away lived on a farm, and had horses, i hope they weren't kept in the same conditions, i think it's disgusting that people treat there animals like they're nothing.
I'm glad the pigs have a loving home, I'm not sure how long it will last though as the boy is already starting to loose interest.
Has anyone else ever experienced anything similar ?
It has really shocked me as you don't see how bad it is untill you see it for yourself.
