I am interested in taking in some unwanted gps or to foster some for people or rescue centres I just wanted to know how you go about doing this. There isnt many places where I live that offer a rehoming service apart from p@h and I think I can offer a little more care and attention than them.

Fostering guineas for people mean you are boarding them, which you should really have insurance for or at least qualifications to prove you know what you are doing. The first thing you will have to do is get in touch with a rescue that covers your area, I am sure there will be one not to far away. They will probably then determine if you are suitable to be a foster parent, if they need any that is. You will probably then be given your first foster guineas (one or two to start with) and they will then decide if they want to have you as a fosterer. But I have only volunteered so am not sure of the process. :)

I foster rabbits for a rescue which must be similar I would think. I supply hay and veggies and the rescue supplies dry food and pays for any necessary vet treatment. I know the rescue owner pretty well so it was all quite straightforward. I take either long-termers who need a bit extra attention, or I act as an overflow and take rabbits for a short time if there is no space in the rescue. Usually, they go back there to be rehomed.
Have a look around to see if there are any animal shelters in your area or a branch of the RSPCA. Doesn't necessarily have to be very close by. I'm sure most centres would appreciate having a fosterer.

loopylou this is exactly what I would like to do I think I will email the rspca and find out if they need anyone to act as a overflow or if they know of anywhere else that may do this cheers!

i'd love to do this too, but don't think hubby will appreciate any more hutches and runs in the garden.
Would love to work with animals, the rspca who i am rehoming from are advertising a part time receptionist, mon tues 8.30-4.30 and alternate saturdays and sundays.not possible for me as i have to do the school run. and i don't drive so that hinders me somewhat.
Once Hallie is at secondry school I think this is the sort of work i'd like to do.

Why don't you volunteer? This way you can help animals in rescues at what times suit you and the rescues will be more then grateful. :)

yes have thought of this too, might look into it. might cost me too much in bus fares though.

I thought about doing that too. But I would find it heartbreaking seeing the state some animals come to them in. But its rewarding too once they are in good health and find that forever home. Also it is a good experience for those that would like to start a rescue.
