First, wasn't sure where to put this so apologies moderators if it's in the wrong place

I've been to the same vets a few times now, and mostly am happy with them but last time one thing the vet said rang alarm bells that maybe she's not clued up. I'd mentioned that Barlo's urine had been quite cloudy and she said it should be clear and that maybe I had got it confused with semen :-////. She checked his genitals, said they were all clear and clean so it should be fine and I must have been confused :-/. Its cleared up now, so not an issue, but just got me thinking for next time.

There's no vets on the vet locator near me, but I keep thinking there must be other cavy savvy vets I'm unaware of...but how do I know? Do you just go with gut feeling?

Basically, these are the only piggies we've owned so I'm kind of relying on the vets to know what they're doing - but what if they don't? And how would I even know if they don't?

You are in exactly the right place to ask the question @LozzyBee .
It can be a bit of trial and error finding a vet with who is cavy savvy. I struck it lucky when I joined my current vets 18 years ago when I had bunnies and piggies as the vet who set it up had an interest in buns and his wife (also a vet) loved piggies. Over they years they have recruited exotics vets to the practice so I have been rather spoilt.
If there are none near you on the vet list recommended I would ask @Abi_nurse as she is London based and may be able to recommend a practice or particular vet to you.

:agr: with VickiA. It is just trial and error finding a cavy savvy vet, unless you get one recommended by a friend.
Perhaps you could draw up a list of piggie-related questions based on information on here, and see if any vets will answer them. A good vet won't mind answering questions. And a really good cavy savvy vet will get them all right!

Generally you don't find a cavy savy until you need one. I found mine online, my vet had recently opened and posted on Guinealynx many years ago. It is very much trial and error, unless you can find some online recommendations.

Thanks all. I may possibly try another vet next time. Another vet might even give me more of feel if my usual one is ok I guess. Funnily enough I just noticed on the first page of the recommended vets thread there's a vet very close to me...but I think that post was back in 2008. I'll give them a ring, might start with nail clipping...
