I've seen some lovely set out cages and was wondering what everyone does? at the moment i have megazorb in the main hutch bit and hay for their bedding? they have an edible tunnel and "hay house" in their hutch also, along with some hanging sticks and cardboard tubes to nibble on. i have seen some fleece beddings etc and am intrigued by it, it looks so cosy for them. any advice would be fantastic and where i could get things from...

I use fleece in my cage :) My pigs love it. I wash and change the bedding every 2-3 days. I dry it in the tumble dryer too :)

I find fleece much easier to manage than wood shavings (which is what I used to use). I sweep up any poops regularly as pigs are massive poop machines. Sweeping them up regularly makes it is much easier to clean when wash day comes and I don't like the thought of them practically living in a toilet either.

Fleece will need to be washed a few times before being used for the first time, otherwise when they wee it will just sit on the top of the fleece making pigs more prone to just lying in it.

I have never used megazorb...

thanks for your reply, i am definitely considering using fleece. is any old fleece ok to use or is there a pets fleece? megazorb seems fine for me at the moment, its just hard picking out the individual poos as there is so many and burys in it.... would make life easier just to sweep it daily..... what do you use for their bedding? do * just use hay for their food then for example or is hay still good for bedding? xx sorry if i sound confused lol, just want to do the best i can for them and make cleaning a bit easier for me if i can :))

Any fleece is fine, just depends on what colour or print you want on it, hehe.

You can use hay for their bed area if you want, that is fine. Midnight feast too :)) But they should also have plenty in a hay rack/loft or whatever you are feeding their hay in.

You can ask all the questions in the world as many times as you want, that is what we are here for :)

I use fleece on all of my cage that gets cleaned out every 3 or 4 days and is poop scooped daily, or at least hand vacuumed.
They have a C&C cage with there food and water upstairs on a little level and there bedding area with hideys and things under the level where it's a little darker and then theres a few toys and tunnels in the open area next to the ramp.
I bought some cheap fleece in primark for my piggies, but if you do use fleece don't forget to wash it 3 times before you use it or else the wee wee won't go through it will just sit on top.
My loan boar lives on back to nature, recycled paper bedding with hay for cuddling up in in his hidey houses.
Hay makes good bedding but you have to careful as i experienced once with my foster piggies, one of them had a piece poke in there eye causing it to cloud over, although it cleared up after some eye drops it still wasn't a nice experience :(

thanks for the advice, i will definitely have to remember to wash it 3 times then, wont want the poor piggies sitting in their wee.... aww poor thing, we thought rocky may have done that to his eye but he seems to have mites which has caused a horrible scabby mess on top of his eye. he can open it fully now but its horrible seeing your piggies unwell.

does anyone have any good websites to purchase those fleece beds or hiding toys etc or good hay to buy? they absolutely love timothy hay, can anyone recommend a good one to buy? my sister gets hers imported from america for her bunnies, although the piggies loved it i am wondering if there is some i can buy closer to home that is of top quality?

We bought a couple of cuddl-E-Cups, rotating them while one's in the wash. We've got a walkway resting over the top of it so it's nicely enclosed. They love it, although they do tend to sneak behind it and nudge it all over the place - it usually ends up in a different place in the cage every day.. :))

Thought I'd mention it as they seem to have gone down a lot in price since we bought ours! :red

I have a hayloft and a haybed, which I completely clean out every two days. The rest is fleece on Vetbed. I brush the fleece once or twice a day, as required, and wash the fleeces every few days. They're usually dry. The Vetbed underneath is, too! They seem to do their peeing in the hayloft and haybed under their water bottles (in one end and out the other!) I use farm hay, that my sister buys by the bale for her rescue male goats and sheep, and add Burgess hay with herbs and Timothy hay to the top of the farm hay. I got a bag of Timothy hay from PatH. It's tightly packed and has lasted ages already.

I have two boars that live in a one level 3x4 c&c. I put the hay rack next to the corner litter box. I have one wall lined with sticks. 1X2 of the area is the area were I put their hideys. The hidey area is fleece bedding. I change the fleece. Every 5 days. The rest of the area is newspaper that I change every 2 days. The bowls are in the middle of the cage for easy access. I think they are happy in their mansion.:))

My girls love their home comforts!
