My gorgeous girl Treacle is 4 years old and currently weighs 970g (she has a petite frame!) - since we moved them inside she's been gorging herself stupid on the joys of timothy hay, and now looks very very pear shaped. She is a healthy weight, but she just looks out of proportion and could maybe do with losing a little weight. She has always been a steady 880 - 900 and that suits her - and she has no unusual lumps or bumps - she's just round!
How do you put a piggie on a diet without affecting the feeding of the other pig? (Bernadette is completely healthy and happy at just under a kilo, but she's very long and floofy :)) )I wouldn't know how to even start! I know they're supposed to have unlimited hay and veggies every day :)

This is exactly the same question I was going to ask! I have a really fat pig but I can't cut down on food because of the others!:))

She's at an average weight, and I wouldn't recommend cutting her hay intake as this is important for her health, teeth and overall condition. If she is gorging on the dry food mix you can cut this if your giving her unlimited amounts, she should be only eating the recommended daily allowance :)

What I now do, as I noticed that Violet was getting very rotund, is that they have unlimited amounts of hay 24 hrs a day, a massive pile of veg in the morning and I give them their quota of dry food at night - if it's gone in the morning, it doesn't get topped up until the evening (in 3 different bowls, so that no one gets to scoff it all!).

This is an interesting thread, I have a couple of piggies that are portly shall we say, I will cut their pellets down and see how it goes. Thanks.

This thread made me giggle because it reminds me of 2 of my girls. They have nice big round bootys, but they aren't overweight. Unfortunately I can't cut down the amount of pellets they get because there is a young piggie in with them that is about 10 weeks old, but I find all 4 of my piggies will only eat the pellets as and when they need them, and have never found any of them sitting at the pellet bowl for extended periods.

Well Treacle's been on a diet for about 5 days now. She's looking a little rounder but OMG - the way those ladies wheek constantly for food, you'd think I was starving them! Bernadette even nibbles on the bars when she thinks food is coming as if to say 'Pwease feed me Mummy, we haven't been fed in a week!' lol Doesn't matter that they get loads of hay and veggies, that little bit less nuggets makes them the greediest piggies ever!

I have, all that's reduced is the pellets. They still get a constantly full hay rack but it's just not good enough to stop them wheeking! A good portion of mixed veggies, lots of timothy hay and just enough nuggets - guess they've got used to the life of luxury! And Treacle has always been greedy anyway :p

And when I said in the last one she looked a little rounder, I actually meant a little less round!
