Hello

I was thinking about making a double storey C&C cage, that is of course if I can get my hands on the darn cubes first! LOL.

I have a boar, Rodney who I was thinking of getting neutered and adding 2 rescue sows.

At this moment in time I only have enough room for a 2 level 3 x 2 grid cage. Is this big enough foir 3 guineas? I am hoping to move in with my boyfriend in the not too distant future - then I will be able to add to the 1 st level.

How hard are they to make and put together. Any advice from anyone that has made them, especially multi level ones would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Andrea

Hey...

I dont think a 3x2 is enough for 3 piggies...

Here is a picture that was really helpful when I wanted to add a second storey. All you do is turn the grid-connector on its side.

Also here is a link that should help with their housing :)

Of course yes, they will get lots of floor time. Don't forget it's 2 levels, so technically the floor space is that of a 6 x 2.

It's still not set in stone. I use Rodney for animal handling workshops so he is out with me most days, getting cuddles and strokes. I wouldn't be able to keep a trio of Boars, as I don't want to leave just one alone at home. So that's why I though 2 sows would be better.

Thanks for the links.

That is definatly not big enough for 3 piggies in my opinion I'm afraid... :-\

Thats not true, if you look at the website link posted above it i think, if its the site I'm thinking of it clearly says that upper levels are not to be included in floor space, so even if it had 3 levels it wouldnt be big enough :)

Oh right, I didn't see that? Why is that then? Is it because they will spend most of their time on the bottom floor?

Like I said, nothing is set in stone. I would love to give them all the space in the world, but whilst living at home, with 10 other animals it just isn't possible. So maybe I will just wait until it is. As I said, once I move out they can have a cage the size of a small room!

I have noooo idea ;D I just read it somewhere when i was having my own space crisis! ;D

Cant you get some stacked hutches? I'm getting the OH to build me some ;D

I could yeah, but isn't a double storey hutch just the same as a double storey C&C - in regards to not classing the top level (or bottom) as floor space?

I'm not sure what to do yet..... :-\

Ohhh i was thinking you could have 4 piggies...2 sets of 2... 2 boys and 2 girlfriends ;D

Maybe you could just get him neutered and get him a girlfriend! Then later if you want another girl you can sort the space out then! Or try him with a baby boar? There is a rescue that neuters their girls before rehoming them, maybe that would be a good idea if you didnt want to risk it with your boar?

You have to take out the space the ramp/hole will take up aswell. The reason two levels don't count is probably cos when they run around popcorning they don't run up/down ramps.

Hi Andrea, I think you should wait until you have more room before getting another couple of guineas. A 3ft by 2ft cage would house two guineas comfortably if they get a lot and I mean a lot of floor time, but I am afraid it is not big enough for three. :)

Yeah Amzii, that makes sense, I didn't realise.

A neutered sow is an option. I wanted two as Rodney comes to work with me most days, so leaving one at home alone wouldn't be fair and taking two to work wouldn't really be feesible.

I'm going to leave it for a while, until I know how much space I have to play with definatly.

Thanks for the replies though.

I think the reason they say to exclude top floor as floor space is because you are taking away room downstairs because you have to put cubes on their ends to act as a support for the top story, this in fact takes away space. Also, a ramp would have to be built which takes away more floor space, so in fact you would end up with a very tiny space indeed! I have a 4x2 c + c cage for each of my boars at the moment and I am not happy they have enough space with that. It was originally a 5 x 4 but I had to split it as they fell out :-\
