hi all

i have a new little piggy 10 weeks old. but he wont eat veg. he eats lots and lots of hay and a few nuggets, tried cucumber, kale, spinach, lettuce, cabbage, carrot, celery, pepper, beans. going to try corn later, can anyone recomend anything else?

Try fresh coriander or parsley.

Has he got a companion or piggy neighbours who could show him?

Try fresh coriander or parsley. And persevere! If necessary est a bit of veg at the same time to show him that it is edible. Young piggies pick up their cues from other piggies.

he has neighbours but not a friend, waiting til he is old enough to be done then he will have friends. ok i shall try parsley meant to pick some up.

If you have a garden what about a little bit of grass or the very tiny new leaves of dandelions just coming through.

will try grass. tomorrow. parsley no, dill no and corriander no. :(

I'm sorry your piggy isn't eating his veggies :(. It took Archie a couple of days to realise it was yummy foodstuff when I got him. Mine are big fans of kale, cabbage and lettuce, but you've tried all them, I don't really know what else to suggest.

I was also wondering how important veg is as my OH is always saying "I'm sure they don't need it if they have pellets", etc. I want to show he's wrong but I don't actually know myself :red:))

Sweetcorn? Have you tried to chop or grate the veggies up? My boys had no idea what to do with veggies for the first week, I found chopping them up into bite sized veggies worked a treat!

They can survive quite happily on pellets, hay and water however it makes their life far more enjoyable to have a variety of veg. Mine seem to like porridge more than veg though, odd wee beasts that they are!

:)). I've never tried porridge with mine. They do love their veggies though, I couldn't take that joy away from them, it makes their day! :(|)

i shall keep at it for now. he currently has broccoli, carrot, baby corn, green bean and herbs trying to get him to eat something but nothing he loves his hay though and is really liking the nuggets to.

ok the only thing he is eating is a very small piece of parsley and its lasts him hours, its taken me 5 days to get him to eat it. I cant just feed him this though but he's not interested in anything :( silly boy.

My two boys weren't so interested in their veg when they were a bit younger but their like of veg has grown as they have grown older. They are approx 6 months old now.

Can you feed him at veggie time right next to others, so he can see that they are edible? The "I don't want to miss out on what you have" reflex is usually the most surefire way of getting piggies to eat. Youngsters learn by copying other piggies.

While he is not eating veg, I would try and recommend syringing him a little bit of dissolved vitamin C tablet every day. There is some in good quality pellet, but you may want to make sure. Don;t add it to the water. It will go off very quickly and will only profit the fast growth of algae in the bottle.

i feed him and the other piggies at the same time he's just not interested but can spot the rustle of the hay bag and wheeks like mad. might try and feed him with my other boy see if that helps.
