I posted something about her uti recently, so sorry if I'm not supposed to post again, but I'm very new to forum posting, and am desperately worried about my guinea pig.
Beano (in avatar photo) has been diagnosed with a urinary tract infection (after a urine analysis), and the vet did feel her abdomen (etc), and didn't feel any stones.
Symptoms:
* breathing heavier (especially during urination/pooing)
* A very occasional light sqweek when going to the toliet.

She popcorn, sqweeks, etc. There is no blood in her urine, or any sludge. I think I saw a tiny bit of white after it dried a couple of weeks ago. But otherwise it is clear. No sludge.
I know I should get an x-ray, and I will if she's still sick in a few days. She is on baytril twice a day (for 11 days so far).
I just want to know how prepared I should be (emotionally) when I take her for her x-ray. I am really scared that if it's stones and she's operated on that she'll die. I haven't read good outcomes on bladder stones... Thank you for any help.

Hey,

Try not to worry too much, most common cause of squeaking when weeing is a UTI or cystitis and inflammation of the bladder.

If after her antibotics has finshed she is still squeaking you can ask for a) A xray just to put your mind at rest and rule out stone b) a different anti-biotic called Septrin which tends to work better with UTI's , but I must say we have had good results twice with Baytril on our piggies c) Some metacam to help with any pain and also help reduce any inflammation of the bladder wall.

Did the vet test her wee with a dipstick to see presence of blood? The white thing you saw as wee dries is excess calcium - perfectly normal.

There are many sucessful Bladder Stone operations but remember on the internet you always see more reports of unsuccessful op's as people always look for advice in bad times and don't always post about good.

Lots of love to Beano.

Could you add your location to your profile so we can tailor any future advice to your geographical location.

I would finish the antibiotic course first and go from there. An xray would help put your mind at rest though.

Am having similar issues with my Star at the moment, will test the wee tonight and will look at getting her on antibiotics followed by an xray if needed, so I can rule out a stone.

Thanks very much. I took her to a guinea specialist and an xray and urine test was done. Turns out she has bloat.

Glad you have a diagnosis.

Did they give you medication to treat it?

yes they gave me their own mix, so i don't know the name, pain med called tramadol, critical care and vitamin c tablets. She's still not well, but the vet is very good, even calling me to check how she is. Hope little Star is feeling better
