I gather from various websites that the recommended time before allowing a sow in with a boar after he has been castrated is 3 weeks but I also read people often leave a longer gap than 3 weeks.

How long do YOU leave?

I have never had it done personally but am considering it & due to advice on here I would leave 6 weeks - better safe than sorry!

yeh all the internet literature say to leave a minimum of three weeks but then in practice a figure around 6 weeks seems to be more accepted

I waited 4 weeks and was fine so thats what I voted but the longer you wait the less chance of getting caught out I suppose

I'm waiting 6 weeks with Nutty, he is going to live with a 5 year old Sow so don't want her getting pregnant! I think 6 weeks is best to be safe. :)

I just had my two boars castrated with the view of getting "girlfriends" my vet recommended 3 months!!
I dont know how accurate that is but i have stuck to it just incase!

After Shotzie gets snipped, I am going to wait somewhere between 5 and 6 weeks.

I was recommended 4 weeks but wiat 6 weeks to be certain. The dangers for me are too high to leave it for a shorter period especially when being matched with an older girl.

That seems like a long time, but if my vet said it I would stick to it too as I really trust him, (obviously if he said a shorter time than 6 weeks I wouldn't do believe that!)

The nurse at my vet told me 2 months. I'd rather be safe than sorry! :))
