how long is it before the xeno450 starts to help and make the pig feel less itchy?

maisie and ches had their treatment at 9pm last night and maisie seemed better this morning, scratching less, but i think i may have spoken too soon as she is still scratching quite a bit and is chewing and biting everything. she has just destroyed the paperbag and has chewed chesneys fur (see other thread)

:(

There is usually improvement after a couple of days, but they can sometimes seem a bit more scratchy initially and I always think it's because the mites are dying and biting on! :))

oh right, ok. i was hoping it would be sooner than that. my poor girl. i've just had her on my knee for cuddles and to check her over. i can't believe how greasy her fur is. :(

Maisie's behaviour can also mean that she's about to come into season. Girls can get a bit funny on occasion when the hormones rush in - I had this sometimes with one of my girls. Minx had a "wrecking" day every few months - cardboard, newspaper, towels, wallpaper, carpet fringes whatever...

If you want, you can give Maisie and Ches a bath. I usually do an insecticidal bath to give them initial relief until the ivermectin kicks in, but a normal, skin soothing bath will help as well.

I don't think you should bath within 24-48 hours of Xeno - have a look at the instructions - it might just wash off the active ingredients!

yes, it's 48 hours. i have given them a bath not long ago, and tried to give maisie a second bath using the gg coconeem melt followed by the manuka and neem shampoo. if you have seen my other thread you will know it didn't go too well.

as advised i am giving xeno450 every two weeks, and a soothing bath the weeks inbetween, until the end of the treatment. hopefully this should help.

so next sunday is bath day. :) with the shampoo, not the melt!

Good luck! I've never used xeno; I always go and have injections from the vet.

Hopefully, Maisie is in a better mood by tomorrow!

thank you, she seems to have calmed down a bit now. fingers crossed she is starting to feel less itchy.

well, i nodded off before! :)) and i was woken up by loud wheeking and looked over and ches was popcorning round and maisie was sprinting laps round the cage! they were both so happy! they woke me up because it was 20 minutes past veg time! :))

anyway, since then (5pm ish) maisie has been fine and so much happier. she hasn't been scratching or pulling at her fur so i'm really really happy. :(|)

so looks like it is mites they have. can't believe they have them again! but at least it is getting sorted now and maisie is much much happier again. :(|)

Mites have a way of popping up again... I know that only too well myself!

Glad to hear that your two are feeling a lot better already!
