How long can I expect my piggies to live?

Just wondering about people's experiences.
I adopted Bear, already then an adult, 3 years ago and he's still going strong, with the exception of a scare last month which resulted in sucessful dental surgery to file down his malloccuted molars. He's back to his old self now though...although he sleeps more and more as he's gotten older (normal i assume?).
I can really notice the difference between his activity level and that of his new young friend, Dibs, who I predict is less than a year old (also a rescued piggie).
Anyone have (or have had in the past) cavies who have lived very long lives? Tell me your secrets.... :)

I think the average age is given as 5-6 years. The eldest I have had was my girl Meeka who passed away last September and she was approaching 8 years old. I think some people on here have had piggys older than that! :)

over the years I find mine are normally 4 going on to 5 thats my average age but saying that I have had some live to almost 8 and a few of 7 and a couple of 6

yer... i would say around 5-7 yrs... i have only had 1 out of 3 piggies die :( so I'm not really sure...

The first Guinea Pig I adopted was already just over 4 years old, I had him for a year and a bit before he passed. so near 6 years - ish

Like has been said, it's typically 5-8 years old. The better you feed them, the more you love them, and the more exercise time they get the better. Good luck with your piggies, can't wait to hear more stories and see more pigtures about them!

Also the more understanding ou have of them and their needs :)

As a new piggy owner I'm dreading the day that one of them dies. I've only had cats and dogs before, which obviously lived double/triple the lifespan. I wouldn't have chosen small animals as pets - I had them off friends because they were being neglected - partly for this reason, as I get so attached.
