How Long Can Syringe Feeding Go On For

I just wanted to know what's the longest time you have syringed fed for? And did your pigs go back to eating properly by themselves?

i syringe fed my dental piggie Jerry for 7 months,he started eating on his own for 8 weeks and then i had to start syringe feeding again.it very much depends on the piggie,health reason and your time.

As long as you can get the required daily amount into a piggy to maintain their weight, and the original health issue doesnt take over and make them too ill to recover, then they can go on for as long as they need. Obviously the key point to getting them off syringe feeds and eating for themselves is to treat the initial illess- i think this will be the case with your little one. Sadly unless they find the cause and its treatable, you will be going on feeding her until you decide enoughs enough. You are doing the right thing until she has a diagnosis and a treatment plan, dont make any harsh decisions until you have the full picture xx

I remember a piggy on Guinea Lynx from Australia. I think it could have possibly been a few years of hand feeding for her. She was called Jessie.

As long as it takes - with a severe illness that can mean several days of round the clock day and night feeds to nurse a piggy through the crisis, followed by a recovery phase where you can reduce the number of feeds as your piggy is able to take larger feeds to about 4 feeds in a day.

Some guinea pigs with chronic dental issues can be kept on syringe feed long term.
