How Long Does It Take When Introducing Vegetables

I'm so impatient I have been introducing vegetables to wee rocko but he's not interested I have gave him something new everyday I have tried peppers, cucumber, spinach, celery, coriander lol I will just keep trying and persevere hey just sticks to his hay muesli and grass is this okay do you think he will come round? X
 
He will eventually. Keep giving him a bit of the same thing every day. One of my boys only ate carrot when I got him. I think it took about a month of giving him a bit of red pepper every day until he built up the courage to try it.

I just gave him a bit of each veg every day and eventually he tried them.
 
They learn from each other which is why they will often eat the same piece of veg. that there cage mate is munching on!

Perhaps you will be able to get him a friend to help him learn what is safe to eat?
 
I thought that was going to be the case..it's like having a new baby I come home excited with new vegetables for him to try lol my kids are like what did we get Xx

No cage mate I'm afraid the vets are asking for £80 to get him neutered xx
 
Has he ate any veg yet? Try some Parsley - never met a pig that can resist it... Or some little Gem lettuce

Nope keeps avoiding them like the plague lol will get some of the above tomorrow hopefully he'll get there...he squeaks everytime I walk past but I don't know what he wants he has food there lol I think he's after grass he loves it x
 
I got my two from a pet shop and I don't think they had ever had vegetable's before and turned their nose up at everything and would only try cucumber, coriander and tomato which then became the only veg they would eat for two months no matter what I tried and then all of a sudden they just ate every veg I put in front of them.
 
Ah kylie there's hope yet lol I know it's still early days fingers crossed cx

Hutches Boarding - Hutches Boarding - Small Pet Boarding, Small Pet Holidays,Rabbit & Guinea Pig Boarding Alyth, Scotland This rescue should be quite local to you, they may be able to help out with bonding your little one to another by a process called 'boar dating'. What happens is you arrange it with the rescue to bring your piggy along for introduction sessions with other boars to see if there's one he gets along with. Of course it is subject to availability of having other single boars but it's certainly worth a try. It's the safest way of getting him a companion :)

I hope he eats veggies soon for you.
The grass will be good to eat soon and might be a great stepping stone onto veg. Our Willow had babies 2 weeks ago and they have loved all veg from a day old. X x

I also think he needs a friend, if you take him to a rescue they will bond him with another boy, if the first try doesnt work they will try another so that takes the weight off your shoulders. Make sure you ring the rescue first to confirm that they do bonding.
 
Sorry to be a major pain in the backside So far rocko will eat gem lettuce, sweet corn and broccoli he won't touch peppers or celery is that going to be okay for him he's still eating plenty of hay and grass I just wondered if he's getting enough of what he needs xx
 
Him eating hay and grass is perfect. Hay should be at least 80% of his daily food intake.

If you also feed him pellets/nuggets then they usually have Vitamin C added so he's be getting plenty.

Try not to worry, and keep being persistant with the veg, he'll eat it eventually. They don't need a great amount of veg each day anyway.
 
Have you tried parsley like @sport_billy suggested? Or other herbs like dill? These are often a winner! The other thing is sometimes it helps (no idea why) if you try cutting the veg in different shapes for example long thin strips of pepper? You could also try different ways of giving it, for example scatter feeding or I have seen people hang food off string with pegs. Worth a shot?
 
Thanks guys no I forgot all about the parsley I'll get some if that he's eating guinea pig mixed food he won't eat the nuggets tho that's fine if he's doing okay with that I was just getting a bit anxious so you have put my mind at ease...thank u x

I think I feed mine too much veg in the winter lol in the summer they hardly get any as they love grass and dandelion leaves. Sounds like you are doing fab with him xx

I don't know why cutting the veg into different shapes and sizes works but it does for my two. They are so gullable sometimes lol.
