Hello everyone!

I know that I'm not likely to get any answers during holiday time, but here we go: We have had our GPs for about 4 months, and the bigger one has always been a bit moody during heat (some rumblestrutting, chasing) but recently (probably adolescence or something) it has gotten worse. About 16 days ago, at her last heat, he learned how to chirp and woke us up in the middle of the night. Now we travelled to our hometown for the holidays with our piggies (300 km-ish) and "fortunately", she is in heat again. It started on saturday with sole mild chasing and rumblestrutting, which stopped once they were in the carrier. In sunday, there was again some whining while rumblestrutting and nibbing, but yesterday night she went completely crazy, woke us up 4 times with chirping, kept rumbling and chasing her mate the entire night, and even now, she keeps chasing and trying to mount her, with her becoming more and more afraid and annoyed.

Is it normal for the PMS period to last this long? Unfortunately our piggies are quite close in age, so dominance probably makes things worse.I know prolonged heat can be caused by ovarian cysts, but she always took a bit longer to calm down after heat, and I don't think a 2 months old gp is likely to have OC (she was 2 months old when we got them)

Thanks, and happy holidays!

I've heard people say 24 hours, but my girl Ginny is usually rumbly for more like 3 days. It does get annoyingly loud sometimes.
Not to scare you but when Ginny hit her teenage years, she once spent a whole month acting like she was in season....it was a nightmare! I was convinced she had ovarian cysts but the vet couldn't feel anything. She eventually calmed down and it's back to every 2 weeks or so.
All I can suggest is ear plugs!

Thanks! Basically I just wanted to know if others too habe experienced long heat seasons like this, but apparently yes :)

Also, is your Ginny whining as well while she is rumbly? It annoys me more than the actual rumbling :)

Yes lot's of squealing and a weird popcorn type movement which makes her look like she's having a fit. She looks like she hasn't got control of her body, it's no wonder she gets grumpy.
