How long have you had guinea pigs

I was just working out last night how long it is since we have had guinea pigs and my sister who is older than me says i got my frst ones for my 5th or 6th Birthday but she had had them lbefore that ,and we have always had guinea pigs at either my place or hers ever since so thats 40+ years.
How long have you all kept piggys and what got you interested ?
 
Not that long really; 10 years. I got them at 11 years of age in 1997, and my Dad treated me to one ( :embarassed:) after one of my rabbits died, an agouti boar called Micheal. He taught me a lot about cavies, and I've learnt so much since.
 
Ive only really had them for 1 year, although I got my first piggy about 7 years ago...
 
Only had mine a few months. Jessie was my first piggie i got for my birthday in March followed by Petal at the end of April i think. :)
 
had them for 5 years :)

had rats but friends guinea had babies and I thought they were so cute decided to get guineas as agaisnt more rats
 
Bumble and Hamish - 1year
Rimmer - 8months (I think)
Treacle and Blossom - Umm.. dunno few months
Blossoms babies are 8weeks old i think
 
only had munchie and bob for 5 months, before i got them i spent a month reading and finding out about piggies, so i knew i was prepared, and i wanted to be a good mum for them.

i hope to have more piggies soon, i want to adopt more from our rspca once i have more space :D
 
well my first piggie i got was when i was about 8 years old ( nearly 10 years ago) after she died then i just had hamsters
but i started owning them again in 2005 and have had them since .... :laugh: i wouldnt want to get a different animal after owning my guineas i have now :smitten:
 
nearly 4 years my mum waited until i was old enough to take care of them my self she was right though if she had got me one when i was a kid she would have probably ended up looking after it. but when i hit 18 i still really wanted a guinea pig so thats where i started woudn't be without them now
 
I think I was about 11 when I got my 1st 2 piggies and I have had guineas ever since so, 23 yrs :o, I'm sooo old ;D
 
I had a guinea pig when I was 5/6 then we had hamsters, and i got back into guinea pigs when i was 14 and ive had my two eldest ones Moragn and Lois for 5 1/2 years, ive also got 5 others which are younger than the two girls :)
 
We first got piggies about 10 years ago when I considered my eldest daughter would benefit from helping me care for a small furry. Needless to say we (or should that be I!) became addicted and the rest, as they say, is history!
 
I've only had mine for about 11 months, and I've loved every minuite of it! ;D ;D ;D

I´ve had piggies since 9 years. My first piggie was a lovly litte sow. She lived 7 years.
 
19 months, bubble and squeak my first piggies :)

i bought them for my partner. he always kept on about them but i said no, didn't like them :( his mum had cancer and he was so sad and down i said i would get him 2. i was that scarred i wouldn't hold the box they were in.

2 days later i was in love :smitten: :smitten:...... i now have 37...............yes went a bit mad but half are rescue some of which were pregnant......

well that's my excuse for having so many ;D but really I'm just obsessed.........no more tho
 
I got my first one about 30 years ago in primary school. He was an albino which I called Tarka. My sister had already got his brother (called Katy!) (we were young!) and no-one wanted the other one so I said I'd have him and brought him home and plonked him on my mum's lap while she was watching Wimbledon. It was a happy ending because they were together again. We didn't have much idea that they should be kept in pairs. Have had guineas pretty much ever since, definitely for the last 15 years. I'd been a hamster fanatic before that.

They're just brill pets :smitten: :smitten:

That is how long we have had our currant piggies. But for me I have had piggies on and off for 23 years ;D
 
I had my first piggie 'Penny' when I was in primary school, so I was probably 9\10 ;)

I'm now 23 and I still have them ;D
 
I got my first guineas when i was 7, so 13 years!

My oldest guinea pig i have now is 4 :)
 
when i was little we had a family pet guinea pig, but i wasn't really interested back then.
I used to have a house rabbit, and last year i was considering a pair of rabbits, but hubby moaned about the vaccinations, thinks they are a rip off, and i wouldn't consider having rabbits without vaccinating them, so I opted for piggies, we have had them since last may, so just over a year, and i'm sooooo glad i chose guinea pigs, i adore them, and they have really become my piggies, which is fine by me.they do make me wheezy though.

My god I said I was 23? Sorry 27!!

I think I'm just wishing! lol ;)
 
;D ;D ;D People normally get it wrong by 1 year, not 4! Wish I was 27. I'm 39 and can't believe how fast time goes, everyone says that don't they, but it's true!
 
A day :) I have so much to learn and i'm so impatient !

But they are beauitful :)
