How long is a guinea pig in season (on heat)

[Claire W]

Just wondering how long a guinea pig is in season / on heat? Eliza is still mounting Ellie and this has been happening on and off since Monday

I thought they were in season for 24-48 hours every 14-18 days ?/

Sometimes my 2 can be in season for a week but I'm not sure if it's because one goes into season then begins to settle down but then the other starts rolleyes

I think that it is more likely to do with dominance then. Both Ellie and Eliza snuggled on my knee this evening so they must be getting on ok. I'm just a stressed piggy mummy x

I have witnessed that sometimes the signs of being in season can also become part of a struggle for dominance, either at the beginning of a relationship or when the dominant sow has been ill.

The longest rumble with occasional mountaineering I've had lasted six weeks, but my sister complained for months about her two ladies!

Typical female behaviour.
