Hello,

I don't even count as a newbie owner yet as I don't get my piggies until next week, but was wondering about dog urine on our lawn. I have read it is bad for guinea pigs, but not sure if that is only fresh dog urine? Also would rain (or spray from the garden hose) be enough to make it safe for their outside run? I would like to be able to move the run around the garden and keeping a separate area just for the piggies isn't possible, does anyone have anymore info? Or does anyone else have a dog, is it a problem or not really something to worry about?

Thanks in advance!

Lauren

Personally, I wouldn't risk using grass a dog has wee'd on at all. If I suspect a dog has wee'd on our lawn, I don't use that area until that bit of grass has grown out - which is usually 3 mowings.

Might be controversial but I've always had pigs with dogs and never worried. If I see a dog pee in the grass I wouldn't put the run there, but other wise the run just went where the grass was best! The boy never peed on the grass anyway an the girl left brown marks so you knew where she'd been. I think if I had dogs now (or a lawn!) I'd worry more - but my other pigs never had any issues

We do have a front garden that the dog never goes in, but it's quite mossy and I've heard that's bad for them too! Reading more it seems they probably won't eat the moss, but was trying to figure out which would be the lesser of two evils! Thanks for the responses, don't even have them yet and am already obsessing about them!

It's inevitable! I worry so much more about my pigs now than I ever used to, thought that might partly be because I'm an 'adult' now and I was 9 when I first had pigs
