Possibly the oddest/stupidest question ever, and one I never thought I'd be asking, but how long is too long for guinea pigs to be apart when out for lap time?

Barlo will wheek when left alone in the cage for longer than say 15 minutes, whereas Barnaby I think enjoys the breather and will quite happily potter around without having his annoying cage mate following him around for a bit.

How long do you usually spend on lap time?

Very much depends on the piggy I find. The Sheep will only do about 20 minutes before they are fed up and want to do something else but H will spend all evening with us and varies between on the sofa with us or running round our feet in the kitchen or living room :)

I find they tell you when they want to go back by getting wriggly, nibbling or making noise. You learn what is the right signals for your piggy.

My partner and I have our 2 boys on our laps in bed for about 45 mins every night (and morning of a weekend). But we line in between us with puppy pads so they jump from our knees, onto the bed and back onto our knees as they please. They also get fed their veg at lap time so they love it ha

It all depends on how my two feel every day, some days we will cuddle for an hour or so, some days it'll only be 15 minutes or so!

Basically what Merrypip said! My pigs definitely let me know

Definitely depends on the pig, my girls get veggies and cuddles and Cissy rather likes to lay down and watch TV on my lap after, however Bella gets bored easily and fidgets something chronic after maybe 15 mins. Some days are better than others. I think Cissy would stay for lap time forever providing there was regular food and something good on telly!
:lol!:

If you asked my Mrs Fuzzy she would say about 10 seconds, as she darts off as soon as she can. For normal pigs I would say about 15 minutes, some like longer. Only a few of mine are lap pigs. Maud would happily stay for longer and snuggles down and relaxes . Then she pees and poos all over me. Thank goodness for lap pads.

:D Most of my girls are "relaxers" and will settle down on my lap for an hour. I never keep them out any longer than an hour, and I always give them something to eat every 15-20 minutes. I live on my own, in a very quiet neighbourhood, so it is easy for the piggies to feel safe. :tu:

All three of mine have it together ( i have a big lap!) they just start reversing or nibbling when its pee time so a hasty newspaper break in their carrier then back to laptime.

it depends on the day, 15mins to a couple of hrs at a go. they have a light snack(or two) in the duration of laptime, so everybody's happy :D
they usually cram up together in a long line along my legs if i have my feet up or have intermittent relaxes on my lap/ chest with the manic transition between the two!
a few of my girls have loved sitting in my shoulder , nuzzling into my neck or hiding behind my hair:) ... piggy scarf.
towels & cosies usually on standby too

Chip is fairly restless when we have cuddles as he tends to prefer running around on the floor and quite often attempts to climb down, whereas Pip loves his cuddles and can sometimes stay up to 45-60mins. A normal cuddle with Chip will be 10mins and a normal cuddle with Pip will be about 30mins, so cuddle times can vary. See how long your Guinea pigs last without fidgeting about, because that's normally when they're bored.

As long as there is a pad out so they can take themselves off for a wee as and when they need to, most of mine will happily spend hours sitting on or next to me of an evening. I make sure they periodically get veggies as they don't have access to water and they can get quite warm. On the other hand my others, particularly the younger ones have had enough after 10 minutes and want to be off exploring!

Our Peppa, Ethel-Seal & Morag would happily live on our chests or under our Chins until they need a piddle (Ethel-Seal actuly isn't even that bothered bout that...). Ned makes about ten minutes before deciding there is something better to do. Miley tolerates a couple of minutes before being agitated, but she is getting better, Football & Blondie haven't been handled that much due to having their babies.

I put them back when they start wiggling around like they need to pee. I have found that how long they want to be cuddled varies. Sundae usually only lasts about ten minutes on a good day (but I think her bladder control is limited, as she has lifelong bladder issues. When she has to go, she has to go!) Hadley will flop on your lap a long time, and Linney would just go to sleep and thus used to end up sitting on my lap for the length of an hour-long TV show or short movie sometimes.

One of mine will sit on my lap no problems the other climbers all over me sites on my shoulder them wees on me o.o needles to day out lap time is limmeted lol

Thank you all! The decision I've come to with mine is Barlo stays until he wriggles, Barnaby stays until I feel guilty about Barlo's whining/looking longingly for cage mate!

The trouble I have is Barlo definitely lets you know when he's had enough, Barnaby on the other hand actually snuggles down more when I get ready to move him as if he's saying 'nope, not enough time yet!'. But then poor Barlo is in the cage trotting around, peering up and wheeking for his leader to return!

Until someone else in this house becomes more confident with them/I become confident handing two it's separate lap times...in the meantime I will just have to wait for Barlo to grow a pair and handle being alone for more than 10 seconds :D
