how long are your piggies nails before you cut them?
i think their nails are quite long however i am worried about cutting them, i have never done it before as the lady at the boarding place does it free and the boys are also very wriggly and frightened so i dint want to hurt them
in about three/four weeks they are going boarding again so I'm not sure if its ok to wait or not.

Ummm...I guess it could wait. It's hard to say when you can't see what they look like. Maybe when they board, you can ask them to show you how to do it?

thanks
its not that i dont know how, I'm just nervous about doing it as my pigs hate being handled too much and i dont want them to wriggle at the last minute resulting in them bleeding :{
the nails have curled a bit, not so much that it affects their walking or digs into their feet but it kinda curls into the ground... its hard to explain. ill see if i can upload a pic tomorrow but not sure.

I'm also a bit concerned about nail cutting. I was going to take them to the vet the first time. Maybe get some tips and they can show me how to do it.

I have a brill vets and anytime I have had to do something for the first time I have gone to my vets who have shown me the best way to do things. I have since figured several different ways to hold different pigs in order to make it easier for me but I would say if they are starting to curl already I wouldn't leave it another 3-4 weeks

Hmm... I think I've read monthly from the time they're about six months old?

I did Machu's yesterday. I still find it incredibly difficult as he's pretty wriggly sometimes! But his back ones were very long, curling slightly and must have started to split a little, as they kept getting snagged on my shirt wile holding him. I don't know if they always do this at a certain length, but I'd be on the lookout for anything like that as they could hurt themselves if so.

I wrapped him in a towel, then I would just arrange him so one foot and his head were poking out, and trimmed that foot. He was especially unhappy about this yesterday, so I got the front ones done, gave him some yellow pepper as a treat, and put him back in his playpen for half an hour before going for round two with the back claws, to avoid over-stressing him.

Kind of a mean little trick? I find if mine are asleep, I can usually scoop them up and get halfway done with whatever treatment they're getting before they kind of go, "WAIT WHAT ARE YOU DOING WOMAN? *kick kick kick*"
