Has anyone any experience of a gpig with conjunctivitis? Got drops off the vet on Saturday but they don't seem to be having much of an effect, can still see white where black/brown should be and it has been a few days now. Am I being impatient?

you should see an improvement fairly quickly and by a couple of days in, things should seem alot better. so i'd go back to the vet again at this stage. is your vet piggy-savvy? :)

I agree. It may be that the infection needs a different antibiotic or it could be a different problem

Hmmm, tricky to say - we never seem the same vet twice at our practice! Will continue with drops tomorrow and take Brian in first thing Saturday. Poor pig!

there is a vet locator at the top of the page which might help :)

I agree with going back. Are there any other symptoms like runny nose or laboured breathing? I remember a while ago my vet diagnosed conjunctivitis but it was actually a respiratory infection and she needed oral antibiotics instead of eye drops.

No other symptoms at all. Took him back in earlier this morning and it was a different vet to last time. She said it wasn't actually conjunctivitis but just a droopy eyelid caused by muscles relaxing as Brian gets older. She was impressed how well he looks at the age of six!

hope it starts to clear up soon, i'm in the same boat; it's hard to watch them suffer :( what kind of drops did they give you?
Hope things get better at your end soon, keep me posted. The drops are chloramphenicol but when we took him back today, vet said it isn't conjunctivitis after all but droopy eyelid which just needs monitoring to see it doesn't get infected or anything.

I usually find asking to see a certain vet helps. My vets have several very good guinea pig vets so for the first time I will see who I get, then if I need to go back about the same problem I will ask for the same person again so I don't feel the need to explain everything from scratch.

Brian is indeed very handsome
