Hoppsan is recovering quite nicely after the Fibreplex and CC! He didn't like neither of them but oddly enjoys the mixture of the both!

According to the direction on Fibreplex's package, we should give it to him as long as needed (although I've learnt in here that it's suppose to be given in a short period) and CC's package doesn't have any clear direction on how long we are suppose to give it. We are giving a rather small amount compare to the suggestions on most of the posts here, only about 1ml of CC with 1ml Fibreplex each time and twice per day. (half tsp CC powder+1tsp water+1ml Fibreplex). He wouldn't take more after finish this amount anyways.

Hoppsan is eating on his own, drinking lots, and finally eat up all his veggies and begged for more! His poops are back to the normal size and color although he seems still gets tired easily and not eating as much hay as I hoped. So here are my questions:

1. Will it be bad if we continue to give him 2ml Fibreplex per day as we do now? And when do we have to stop?
2. Should we continue to give him CC? Although the reason I gave him CC is because he wouldn't take Fibreplex by itself. He's eating his pellets and veggies, but not much hay.
3. Why is he not eating hay like before? Our other pig has no issue with the hay, so the hay should be good. We are giving Oxbow's timothy hay and pet store local timothy hay, Hoppsan oddly prefer the local hay now while he preferred Oxbow before. Could it be that the antibiotics is still messing with his tastes or tummy? Or the other hay has more fiber? Or he's simply too spoiled and only wants fresh veggies?

My vet always told me with bacteria supplements to use them for at least 14 days, I would quit sooner if it was a real problem. With supplemental food I always gave until they were eating enough that I could see hay or pellets when I would try to force feed. They tend to keep it in their cheeks.

I would go on to supplement with CC and fibreplex for as long as he is not eating enough fibre. please weigh him daily before his dinner to make sure that he is getting enough food. Hay should make up 80% of the daily food intake. CC and other recovery foods are there to compensate for that. They can be given for an indefinite length of time.

It is not uncommon that one of the usual food groups (very often hay/fibre) is dropped when a piggy is not quite well/in pain and its guts are not yet quite balanced. You can try some very poor, rough fibre like brown cardboard or paper (cut any handles through in the case of bags), toilet or kitchen roll inners; many recovering piggies are very keen on it to help rebalance and restart their guts. Be patient with getting him into the old swing.

Thank you Wiebke! It's a comfort to know that we can keep giving him the supplement without problem! We'll weigh him and keep feeding the fibreplex and CC untill he's eating his hay, he's already got a kitchen roll inner in the cage at all time now. Thank you so much! <3

I had a piggie that was relying on Fibreplex and CC for pretty much her whole nutrition, which was not viable long term, but with Hoppsan, it sounds like it's just a supplement and most of his nutrition is coming from him eating stuff. I don't see a problem with continuing until he's eating enough hay.

Thanks for the info! And yes, we decided to keep giving the supplement untill Hoppsan's hay disappearing as quickly as Ojdå's :D
