When and if I get guinea pigs, i'm going to be getting a 50lb bale of compressed timothy hay. If I buy the 50lb bale and I get 2 guinea pigs, how long will the bale last. I've heard a few people say with their 5 pigs it lasted 4-5 months but I wanted more peoples opinions. Thanks in advance!

Quiet a while, I would be worried it may go mouldy in the centre though. Also it may become dry. People that have loads of piggies tend to buy in bulk. Maybe try it & see if you have any problems.

It depends how you use it, if you use it for both bedding and feeding then probably yes maybe a bit longer.
Remember you have to consider how you are going to store it.

Depends how you use it. If it's just for feed and is in hay racks or bags it will last longer than if it is used as bedding or is in big piles. I get through 17.5 kg of hay in about 6 weeks for three small pigs. I use it as bedding and in big piles to eat so I do 'waste' quite a lot

i buy orchard grass in a 22kg box,ive 20 piggies and it lasts 4 months, but i only give as a treat in there hay racks/boxes.i use a 20 kg bale of meadow hay in 2 weeks,as i use it for bedding and piles of hay everywhere !

The hay would be in their hay racks only to eat. On a rare occasion I might put a little pile for them to play in. I already know how i'm going to store it so that's not a problem. And I know that generally people buy in bulk if they have a lot of piggies but i'm doing it because i'm going to be paying for everything and not my parents so i'm buying in bulk since it's cheaper and I don't have an adults budget. Thanks for the replies. They helped!
