How long without water?

Hello,

I recently welcomed two little piggies into my life. They currently live in a 120 ferplast cage and I have a big trixie run for floor time.

They are great about drinking from their water bottle when in the cage (although they make a massive mess!) however the water botttle spout in the run is a little high for them. I have been putting something for them to step on to reach it but they haven't worked that out yet.

So my question is, how long can they be in the run if they don't have a water supply? I have been giving them watery veg to compensate but they seem pretty keen to drink when they get back in the cage.

Should I put a water bowl in the run? Or will that cause more trouble than it is worth? Pickle likes to sit in the food bowl as it is...
 
can't you attach the bottle to the run? the fact that they are drinking when you put them back tells me they are thirsty

I do attach a bottle to the run but there is only a prescribed slot and it is quite high ( the run is designed for rabbits i think). They have streched up to explore it but I haven't seen them drink from it.
 
Without seeing your run I'm not sure if it would work but have you come across bottle springs? You can get them on ebay (probably other place too) they are a great way of attaching bottles to bars.

Run is like this, there are no bars to attach anything to. There is a little hole for a water spout but it is high up.
 
Poke a hole in the run a bit lower than the hole already in the run. Then make new holes to attach the water bottle to.

I agree with Piggy Fan, if your unsure they an get to the bottle put a bowl of water in for them, if its hot you can chuck a few ice cubes in the bowl.
