How long would my pig live

you ask the strangest questions... sometimes I wonder
- what you want exactly out of this
- if English is your first language
- how old you are

you're good at avoiding answering questions

Are you asking someone to choose between 8 and 15 years?

If this is an indication, I've got 6 pigs, had 8 in my life and only 1 has lasted to 3 1/2 years old. The other died at 2 1/2 years old. Some people have had them until 12 years old but I think thats rare.

To help you with all your questions and queries I'd strongly suggest reading the Guinea Lynx..... Everything you need to know and all your general questions answers, from age (first paragraph) to:
Diet – hay, forages, nutrition, pellets, and a food chart.
Housing- bedding, cleaning tips.
Health Tips – exercise, handling, quarantine, whats normal and whats not.
To Grooming, breeding, sexing, behaviour, companionship and aging, you can also print out a pamphlet : )

Guinea Pig Body Quirks, a very helpful thread:

You could also check out your local library they have a pet section, i love reading books and updating all my knowledge on piggie facts. :)

I have only recently got guineas, and would also be intersted to hear what peoples experiences have been. I've read that average is between 4 and 8 years, but would love to hear real experiences.

I would also ask that other forum members have a little more sensitivity when answering questions. Some people take what they read very literally, and cannot read 'between the lines', so to speak...
:)

my 1st piggy died 8 1/2, 2nd 6 and 3rd 6 1/2. all females.
I lost 2 boars recently aged 4 and 4 1/2...

no apologies regarding previous comments, though.

I find pointing new members new to owning guinea pigs to good thorough guinea pig care sites can answer all their questions in one go esp to general piggie questions.....the guinea lynx was a very informative and helpful site when i first started looking after my boys and it still is, its a good site to know of :)

Piggies live to different ages.

As Audioheart suggested the links are to webpages that will help you understand lots of things about your piggie and pigs in general. Here is a link to the RSPCA Guinea Pig factsheet also http://www.rspca.org.uk/allaboutanimals/pets/rodents/guineapigs

There are lots lots of books that can help answer questions available to borrow in local libraries and of course people on here are happy to help.

I'm sorry but i sense winding up here after reading water bottle thread.

Hi G P P, it sounds to me like your a youngster and after looking at your profile I'd say in high school.

Now to your GP age question, that can be hard to define.

Some only last a short time where as others can last til around 15 ( I knew of one that had grown up with a lad and his family for that time )

If they have good nutrition, good bedding and a healthy lifestyle with exercise and regular checks with a vet . You could get your piggy to live for quite a few years! However like all living creatures there are outside influences and sometimes our pets get taken from us much to young despite all we can do for them.
Hopefully your piggy friend will be with you for a good few years yet .

Please look at the links that are provided, they will really help you out, maybe the best thing is to take note of some of the pointers on the guinealynx site so you can refer back to them :)

the best one is what sex is my piggy.......I don't usually get involved in this sort of stuff and everyone should be treated with respect-but I aint stupid either

Claire, I had my Bailey 5 years, P@H told us he was 3 months old but thinking back he never ever grew (and he was big when we got him lol) so I'm not actually sure how old he was.

In 10 years, I haven't had any live past 5. :( My last 2 died at the age of just over 5, and Cassie is going to be 5 in 2 months. :(

I personally wouldn't say the average is between 4 and 8, as 8 is old. So... maybe the average is about 4-6?

The age they live to varies, but with proper care could be around 8, but sometimes they get something beyond our control and only live a short time:(

I'd say the poster is between the age of 12-15 years my son is 14 and also asks funny questions:))

I think it is harder for boys of this age group to ask questions and be totally serious because they may feel a bit awkward at least I hope this is the reason and not time wasting:p

12-15?! English cannot be his first language if that is the case! I thought MUCH younger...

I previously googled his e-mail address as I was wondering if it was a young child and according to a profile he has on another website he is 9 years old.

I've alerted an admin to this fact as there is some adult topics on this forum which perhaps a 9 year old shouldn't be reading.

I think for the timebeing we should bear this in mind.
