How many guinea pigs should I get?

I would think either two females or a neutered male and one female.
A 2x4 is big enough for two piggies. Any upstairs/loft areas do not count towards the total cage space.
To add additional piggies you need to add an addition 1x2 grids per pig. So for four piggies you would need a 2x6.
Males generally require a bit more space so a 2x5 is ideal for two boys. A 2x4 is still a good size but boys generally need extra room to maintain a good relationship! My own two boys were originally in a 2x4 but I had to upgrade that to give them more room to get away from each other and stop their bickering!
